No. 19 Radio Set for British Vehicles

Introduction
The Wireless Set No. 19 was designed during World War II as a mobile radio set for vehicles. It was widely used in all theatres of war and also saw post war use in a modified form with the Canadian, Swedish and Italian armies. This set from Resicast provides one detailed set plus accessories and antennae.

Review
The set comes in the standard Resicast ziplock bag with a colour insert picture of the set. Inside are two more ziplock bags, one containing the resin and the other holding the etched brass fret. Also included is a folded A4 page with black and white photos showing the layout and key to parts and photos of the real set and two types of antenna base. Two photos of the assembled set with the protective wire cage in place are all that is provided in the way of assembly instructions.

Resin Parts included :

• 1 No. 19 radio set
• Variometer
• Takeover box B
• Antenna resin
• Full resin antenna (Including guard)
• 1 set of earphones
• Takeover box B
• 4 radio rests.
• B antenna base
• Microphone

Etched parts:

• 10 Radio guards
• 2 ( 1 spare) radio grab handles
• 1 Antenna guard for resin antenna.
• One length of brass rod for the protective cage

The set is cast in a light grey/green resin. The detail, from the No. 19 set references I’ve checked, looks good and there are no casting flaws or air bubbles on my sample. The casting plugs are placed in such a way that they can be removed with the minimum of fuss. The full resin antenna is very delicately cast with no clean up needed, but it will require careful handling.

The brass parts are sharply etched, and the resin No. 19 set has recesses to receive the etched brass guards.

An etched headset to attach the earphones to would be a good idea.

Although I’m sure the installation of the set varied depending on the vehicle, it would be nice to get some illustrations of what is possible.

Most of the parts will be easily removed with a sharp knife, but for the B antenna base and some other parts with a thicker casting plug I recommend a razor saw.

Conclusion
This is a neat little set that will enhance any Commonwealth vehicle that mounted the No. 19 set.
SUMMARY
Highs: Level of casting. Minimum clean up required.
Lows: An etched headset would be a great addition to this set.
Verdict: Highly recommended.
