The 15cm s.IG.33 was present on all fronts throughout the Second World War. It carried over when the war ended and was in use into the 1960’s by several Eastern European countries. The 15cm s.IG.33 fired a variety of projectiles, all propelled by a separately-loaded, cased charge.
Griffon Model has produced a 1:35 photo-etched version of these cartridge cases and the crates used for their transport.
contents
The frets are on the typical sturdy Griffon Model cardstock. Two 3.5”X 6”bags are attached to the cardstock. The first bag has two PE frets. The second has the instruction sheet, a sheet with photos of the completed pieces and a small decal sheet. There is a total of 103 etched parts on both frets, to make four transport boxes and eight cartridge cases. The decal sheet provides two options for the stencil markings for the transport boxes. They don‘t, however, provide an explanation as to what the differences are in the markings (early war? late war?).
The instruction sheet is typical for photo-etched sets; with blow-up drawings and ‘action symbols’ indicating what is to be done in each step.
conclusion
This set will go well with the Cyber-Hobby s.IG33 Infantry Gun, the Dragon Sd.Kfz.138 ‘Grille’ or the ‘SIG 33 Bison I’ kits.
Assembly requires creating round cylindrical pieces out of flat stock. The modeler will probably need specialty tools either made or purchased to do this correctly. As well as a vague description for the decals, Griffon Model provides no reference for painting nor indication whether the boxes are supposed to be painted as wood or metal. Although the many VERY tiny photo-etched parts will test the builder’s ability -and possibly sanity, with patience and perseverance, this will build-up into some nice little detail parts.
