Introduction

The recent announcement of the 75mm Pack in plastic by Vulcan and AFV Club has I imagine got many of us hoping for a new 6pdr Anti Tank Gun in 1/35 plastic. Currently only Tamiya produce this weapon in plastic and it is somewhat past its sell by date given the advances in casting, accuracy etc. Resicast currently produce a highly accurate 6pdr in resin, both the infantry and paratrooper versions, plus a towed version which Pat McGrath reviewed here on Armorama, and those products are endorsed and recommended by Accurate Armour to go with their Loyd Carrier.

What has all this got to do with 6pdr ammo you might well ask, well if you have a 6pdr, either the older Tamiya one or the new Resicast version, then you might want some additional ammo to go with it.

Accurate Armour makes some outstanding ammunition sets, and this is a brief look at the accessory set A091 6pdr Ammunition Set #1 (Late).

The Set

The set comes packed in a thick plastic bag with a top card attached outlining the company name and product on the front, with details of how to contact Accurate Armour on the reverse side. The set arrived in a padded envelope attached to a hard piece of cardboard and tightly wrapped in bubble wrap for extra protection.

The set is cast in a light grey resin and appears on inspection to be free from any major damage or air bubbles. Quality of the casting is as one would expect from Accurate Armour..... 1st class.

Instructions:
Inside the bag you get a colour 4 page A4 instruction booklet, outlining the different types of rounds contained in the set. It is a comprehensive build, paint and decal guide and will require a good read before you commence construction. Page 1 gives detailed colour pictures of the four types of rounds you get. Page 2 contains General Instructions and the General Procedure necessary to work with resin, how to deal with any air bubbles, washing parts, priming etc.

These general procedures are very good for anyone just beginning to work with resin and should help to allay any fears you might have, as well as giving good sound advice to the modeller. Page 3 begins the detail process of constructing, painting and adding the decals to the kit parts and page 4 continues this process.

Ammunition:
You get 4 types of rounds in the set, SV.DS, AP-T, HE and APCBC-T. The rounds come on two plugs clearly identified as HE, AP, APCBC meaning the last 3 rounds must be the SV.DS rounds. You get 3 complete rounds of each type.

On the included etched fret, you get some very delicate Y clips to add to the rounds. In addition, you get 4 empty shell casings to scatter around the gun.

Liners:
You get 12 empty tube liners, plus 8 liners with shells partially removed, which I think is a nice touch.

6pdr Ammo Cases:
You get 8 closed cases and 2 open cases with 4 ends in case you lose one, or two! To the boxes you will need to add the photo-etched carrying handles and lid clamp handles (plain face to the front). The nice thing about the handles is that you can have these shown as being carried, or dragged along.

Decals:
One thing often missing from British Army ammo sets are the decals, and in this Accurate Armour excel. You get comprehensive markings for the 4 different type of rounds and the ammo cases, so when finished these will not just be bland scenic fillers, but detailed models in themselves.

Etched Fret:
You get a small etched fret containing the Y clips for the base of the rounds, carry handles and lid clamp handles.

Conclusion

Accurate Armour gives a detailed outline of this set on their web site, and I have replicated it here because for me it sums up this set perfectly:

"A comprehensive 1/35th scale resin and etched brass ammunition set for UK 6 Pr. 7cwt Ammunition and packaging with full colour decals.
Designed for late WW-2 (1943-45), a mix of ammunition comprising HE, APCBC-T, AP and SVDS (APDS) natures with appropriate packaging is provided. Base clips and liner tubes are included and the ammunition containers have separate handles so that figures can be adapted to carry the boxes. 4 opening boxes with lids are also included.
In all 50 castings and 66 etched brass parts are provided, more than enough for any scene with a 6 Pr. Anti-tank gun or a 6 Pr. Armed AFV.

This set is filled with detail, whether you’re building a stand alone gun or displaying one in a diorama, you should get every thing you need with the set to add that level of detail modelers so often seek.

The casting of the parts is excellent, and the addition of the empty liners and partially removed rounds will add reality to any scene. The inclusion of a comprehensive colour painting guide is a real plus and will help modelers greatly when completing the set.

This is the sort of set that makes me want to go out and buy the gun, rather than buying the gun and looking for some ammo!!
