Airborne Heads No 1

Introduction

Amongst the many sets that Resicast offer are 2 sets of Airborne Replacement heads. These sets are, as far as I know, the only replacement head sets that offer camouflaged and netted airborne helmets. Hornet does offer a set of heads with rimless helmets, but I think they were designed with tankers in mind.

The set

The heads come in the standard Resicast plastic Zip bag, with a paper insert on which is a good colour photograph on the front showing the finished heads along with the product and manufacturers details. The heads are contained within a further smaller plastic zip bag. Cast individually in a light grey resin they were free from any damage and the only thing that will need to be removed is the small pour block on which they were cast.

Working round the picture a few thoughts on each head:

Head AA – depicts the face of a talking/shouting soldier. The facial expression is very good, the detail crisp and sharp. Head AA is wearing the standard airborne helmet with highly detailed fine netting. The chin strap of the helmet is fastened above the front of the helmet, the small leather chin holder clearly displayed.

Head AB – This shows the face of an airborne soldier with quite a stern expression. The facial expression is very good, the detail crisp and sharp. The chin strap is fastened under the chin and on top of the helmet is a set of goggles. Again the helmet has detailed fine netting.

Head AE – This depicts another young airborne soldier. This time the chin strap is hanging undone down the right hand side of the neck. The helmet is covered with fine netting and camouflage strips of hessian. Detail is again crisp and clear.

Head AD – This has a slightly more mature face, again with the paratroopers helmet covered in detailed fine netting and the chin strap fastened below the chin. Another crisp and clear casting.

Head AC – Similarly attired to head AD, but the individual has a slightly fuller face. This head is also wearing a finely detailed netted helmet with the chin strap also fastened beneath the chin.

Conclusion

A very useful set of alternative heads. The quality and detail of the casting is excellent, and these heads hold their own, and in some cases exceed similar products on the market. The detail and expressions on the individual heads is sharp, the fine netting on the helmets quite amazing, and the set has sufficient variety to add interest to any airborne soldier you might be building or converting. All the heads display the two rear straps of the airborne helmet attached to the chin straps.

SUMMARY
Highs: A very useful set of alternative Paratrooper Heads that will enhance, and add, to any airborne figures you may be building.
Lows: None that I can see.
Verdict: Highly recommended.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Hey Al, That is a nice set of replacement heads, they should be useful. IIRC, Hornet used to have several mixed sets that included a head wearing a webbing covered para-helmet. After looking at the Hornet website, these sets no longer appear to be available. Cheers jjumbo

Hi John, Yip, when I went looking for heads for the MB Paras I naturally looked at Hornet but they only had rimless helmet guys, nice heads but none with camo. Resicast do 2 sets, both have a mix of camo, netted and plain helmets. I picked up the sets at Duxford, very good quality. Al

Hi Rudi, If only!! They simply have the largest range of British Items around, who else makes 2inch mortars, Vickers MGs, compo boxes and all the rest. Mind you I use a lot of Accurate Armour Items too, again because no one else makes them lol, lol. Cheers Al
