PE for Tamiya Austin Tilly

Introduction

Like many I was delighted to see Tamiya release its Austin 10hp Light Utility vehicle, or Tilly to you and me, in 1/35 scale. (Kit No 35308)

This is a look at a PE update set recently released from the Hauler Model Accessories range, to add a bit more detail to the kit. It is the first update set I've seen for the Tilly, so far!

The Set

this is a simple 1 fret set containing replacement window screens, indicator, side and tool fixings, mirror, bridge plate, AOS/Divisional Sign plate together with a replacement radiator grill.

There is a small paper sheet of instructions, detailing where the parts go, some PE chain is included for the dropped tail guard if you wish to use it, and you get a nice set of PE wipers and an Austin badge for the front.

A replacement inside mirror is also provided and you get a window foil to go with the windows.

Many of the parts are quite tiny, but then so is the Tilly.

Conclusion

A handy, but not in expensive, update set. Personally I thought it was over priced, but it will add some nice additional details to your vehicle if that is a route you choose to go.

I haven't used Hauler kits before, but these PE parts look good. This is not an essential item but should add some good additional details to you vehicle.
SUMMARY
Highs: A nice simple kit to add some additional detail to your Tilly.
Lows: None I can think of.
Verdict: Recommended.

Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Comments

Thanks for the review, Al. I'm sure by now you have the highest number of reviews on Armorama The only comment I have with regards to this review is, if there are "no lows you could identify", why the set only gets a 75% rating? Not trying to be funny, just curious.... R~

Hi Rudi, Good question. Thoughts here were it's not essential and it's quite expensive at £10.00 for a small fret, the% as I understand it is how good/relevant/necessary the kit is. As you probably know I'm not a fan of the % as it's quite subjective. Didn't stop me Recommending it thought, if you want to spend the cash. With any kit I do think you have to consider value for money too, but that's only my personal opinion which doesn't make it right. Cheers Al

1) I think you just found your lows - remember, these are as subjective as the % 2) I agree.

Rudi has a point, price vs. quantity is very definitely worth mentioning as an advantage or disadvantage based on the situation. Despite it's high cost, I will definitely want to buy this set if I ever get my hands on a 1/35 Tamiya Tilly.

Hi Rudi, Yes and No . There were no lows with the kit parts and the price I mentioned in the review so then it's down to personal choice. Al
