Great Wall Hobby recently released this new sWS variant. This 2cm Flakvierling version follows a similar
Flak43 variant and Gepanzerte Ausfuehrung (cargo) variant earlier this year. There is some question as to whether this vehicle was ever officially produced, however at least one vehicle existed as shown in these photos on
Piet Vanhees's sWS site.
The Kit
This kit is essentially the same chassis and main body as seen on the previous two releases mentioned above. Judging by my observations of the unassembled parts, this kit is certainly of the same quality we have seen on these prior releases. There are no observable pin or ejector marks.
The added detail items that are included with this kit remind me of another manufacturer who (not long ago) would add a lot of increased value to their kits by adding things like photo-etch, separate tracks, etc. This kit has most of these add-ons. The only thing I am sure the parent company (Lion Roar) is leaving to the modeler are upgrades like P/E barrels for the 2cm guns. However those may not be needed on this kit as the included plastic barrels include some excellent details.
The instructions for this kit are clear and laid out in a logical fashion. They include an overview of the parts and unused parts are shaded out. There is one photo-etch fret included with this kit. A color camouflage sheet is also included showing a fancy 3-color German camo scheme.
Conclusions
This kit has already been reviewed in detail on
other sites and been given above-average grades. I am not an sWS expert (who is really) so I won't try to pronounce judgement on this kit based on factual statistics or reference material (I don't have). What I will add to what has already been written about this kit is that in my estimation it looks exceptionally cool. Cool enough that I wanted to keep it for a build at some point down the road. And that might say a little something in itself.
