by: Jim Starkweather [ STAFF_JIM ]

This upgrade photo-etch and resin set from ET Model is for the Trumpeter M1117 Guardian kit (#01541). This set includes 4 sheets of photo-etch, resin gas and water can, some brass tubes with flared ends for what I think are the smoke dischargers. The added detail includes things like:

- Rear vent armor detail
- Holders, straps and buckles for gas/water cans
- Hatch levers, inner workings and springs
- Brass wheel discs with connecting rods
- IED Antenna detail
- Smoke discharger mount and detail
- Front lighting detail
- Windsheild/Windscreen wipers
- Rear roof cover.

ET Model has done a good job illustrating the parts for assembly. That said it will still be a challenge for many modelers due to the sheer number of parts and areas of the model to modify. Do your homework on this one first to avoid confusion later.

I did a little price checking online for this set. The prices really vary. From about £28/$45 via BNA to about £11/$18 via HobbyEasy.

Conclusions

I will let the reader decide on this type of thing based on the photos and other details. Obviously not having used the set yet it's difficult to comment on the quality of the final product. However it does appear at least that this will add significant extra detail to a M1117 and that is likely what most modelers will be looking for. Who ever said P/E was suppose to be easy right?
SUMMARY
Highs: Good looking photo-etch and resin details.
Lows: Instructions could be a bit better.
Verdict: A solid upgrade set for the M1117 ASV.

About Jim Starkweather (staff_Jim)
FROM: NEW HAMPSHIRE, UNITED STATES

I started building models in 1971 when I was 6. My first model was a 1/32 P-40 Warhawk. Revell I believe. From there I moved onto the standard cars, Apollo spacecraft, and other kid orientated kits. I don't know what got me started on Armor. I must have seen a Monogram tank kit one day and said "Mom...
