Plus Model out of the Czech Republic hits us with another set of cardboard boxes from WWII that can be added to many different dioramas or vehicles.
Contents
Much like their recent set that goes by the same name "U.S. Cardboard Boxes WWII," this release covers much the same ground, but with a different cast of characters. This set handles a GI's basic hygiene requirements. You get a total of 13 boxes with this sheet: 3 boxes, really cases, of Palmolive soap, 3 cases of Pebeco-brand toothpaste, 3 cases of Williams Glider shaving cream, and finally 4 cases of Scott toilet tissue (an ample supply in the field is always a good idea!).
the Review
The set seems like a pretty easy build: cut, fold, a dab of glue and away you go. It could certainly add a spot of color to an otherwise drab vehicle or vignette. The boxes are extremely well-printed with incredibly small detail, along with labeling that indicates that the products were intended for GI use.
Conclusion
This will certainly make some nice, quick additions to a model, but the subject matter seems a bit limiting. These boxes could certainly be added to a supply truck or jeep load as one possible use. One small issue is that Plus Model does not include any instructions or tips for usage, both of which would have been a welcome addition.
SUMMARY
Highs: A colorful subject that builds up easily enough, and at a great price to make them a welcome addition.Lows: It would be nice to see a greater variety of subjects on each of these sheets. Verdict: I still think this is a neat - and easy - addition, but I would love to see more than toilet paper and toothpaste-type items.
About Rick Cooper (clovis899) FROM: CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES
I have been modeling for about 30 years now. Once upon a time in another century I owned my own hobby shop; way more work than it was worth. I tip my opti-visor to those who make a real living at it. Mainly build armor these days but I keep working at figures, planes and the occasional ship.
