Orange Hobby of China gives us yet another metal barrel option, this time for the WW2 German 37mm FLAK 43. I spent less than an hour adding this new 2-piece barrel in brass to my finished kit. Although most will want to add it to the recent Great Wall Hobby kit, I have a couple of older Tamiya kits in my stash that would really benefit from the addition of this easy upgrade.
Contents
This is a very simple barrel upgrade, consisting of:
a machined-brass barrel (hollow) and flash suppressor. The price shouldn’t break anyone’s beer budget.
Construction
Adding the barrel to the Great Wall kit may require opening-up the mounting hole in the breech with a drill bit. The added weight of this machined-brass barrel is negligible, (it is hollow for its entire length) and will pose no problems.
Conclusion
The quality of this all-brass part, with the superbly-detailed flash suppressor, enhances the stock kit with a level of detail not possible in styrene. My rating:
Ease of build: 100 %
Affordability: 95 %
Quality and Detail: 100%
SUMMARY
Highs: Fantastic craftsmanship and quality! The seamless construction of the flash suppressor gives excellent detail.Lows: Is it really needed? Er...no, dear. But I don't buy model kits because I NEED them!Verdict: An affordable and simple upgrade –almost a shame to paint!
