This is the second review of a Plus Model kit representing this subject. The introduction won‘t be much different that my other reviews although this kit is distinctly different from both kit #383 and kit #372 as it includes a curved section. Check points/road blocks utilizing traffic control is something we see almost every day on the news. The primary method for traffic control at these checkpoints are (what’s known in the U.S. as) K-rail or Jersey barriers. Plus models refers to them as City blocks (long or short). I have seen them referred to as ‘Concrete traffic walls.’ Whatever they are called, in essence they are re-enforced concrete sections that can be set in place singularly or in multiple sections to either force vehicles in a particular direction or stop vehicles altogether.
The review
This resin kit consists of ten pieces cast in a grey-green with nice concrete texture and no casting flaws. All pieces were intact with no breakage and was shipped in the typical Plus Model box with the pieces bagged and in bubble wrap.
Five of the kit pieces represent the metal tubing/rail that sits on top of the concrete portion. The remaining five pieces thus represent the concrete or K-rail portion. There are four ‘short’ sections scale measurements being 3’ long x 2’ in height (91.44cm x 60.96cm). There is one curved section (approximately ¼ of a circle) which measures in scale to about 6’ long x 2’ in height (182.88cm x 60.96cm)
Conclusion
This kit seems to be made as an addition to either or both kit #383 and kit # 372. As a stand alone, it doesn’t appear that you could create a complete checkpoint/roadblock/traffic barrier with just the pieces in this set.
SUMMARY
Highs: Nicely cast with no flaws. Arrived intact with no breakage of delicate pieces. Lows: Unless you are using this as debris or stand alone vignette pieces, additional kit(s) will be needed to supplement the set.Verdict: Again, a nice set of resin castings that will be quite useful in creating a diorama with a modern checkpoint/roadblock/traffic barrier
