This is the third review of a PlusModel kit representing this subject. The introduction won‘t be much different that my other reviews although this kit is distinctly different from both kit #383 and kit #384 as it represents larger/thicker barriers than the other two kits. Check points/road blocks utilizing traffic control is something we see almost every day on the news. The primary method for traffic control at these checkpoints are (what’s known in the U.S. as) K-rail or Jersey barriers. Plus Model refers to them as City blocks (long or short). I have seen them referred to as ‘Concrete traffic walls.’ Whatever they are called, in essence they are re-enforced concrete sections that can be set in place singularly or in multiple sections to either force vehicles in a particular direction or stop vehicles altogether.
The review
This kit consists of six pieces of resin representing four straight sections and two tapering straight end sections. These sections are somewhat “beefier” that the barrier sections represented kits 383 & 384.
This kit pieces measure in 1:35 scale as follows:
Tapering end section (2 in kit) 12.75’ long x 2.75’ high x 2’width (at base) (388.62cm x 83.82cm x 60.96cm)
Center sections (4 in kit) 6.5’ long x 2.5’ high x 2’ wide (at base) (198.12cm x 76.2cm x 60.96cm)
Conclusion
This kit appears to represent the larger type K-rail used here in the states to divide highways and separate freeway lanes. I have seen this type used in Afghanistan to deter vehicles and thwart vehicular bombing attempts. No tubular railing on top of these sections. They are big enough to stop a tank.
SUMMARY
Highs: Nicely cast resin with good concrete texture and no casting flawsLows: noneVerdict: If you are looking for a seriously heavy duty road block this kit is for you. Ample pieces to create a powerful modern roadblock scene.
