J's Work, an accessory and diorama parts manufacturer from China, has released a new series of modern ration boxes and medical supply boxes, intended to replicate the full size cardboard items in current use. These releases are in both 1/35 and 1/48 scale. I previously reviewed the 1/35 scale Modern Ration Boxes 3 which can be found Here. This review will cover the 1/35 scale Medical boxes.

The set arrived in a simple cellophane envelope with the contents being one part. The medical boxes are printed on sturdy cardstock that is cardboard colored. There are a total of 8 boxes that appear to be laser cut, with four small attachment points on the sides of the box.
The boxes are printed on the outer surfaces with a caduceus symbol on the two ends of the boxes, and writing on the larger sides. The writing is mostly illegible but gives the general impression of lettering. Having spent a lot of time loading shipping boxes in the back of a truck, I can attest that the printing on cardboard boxes is not always clear, and frequently can be a little blurred or smeared, and at this scale it really isn't an issue. There is also a small diagonal section of lettering on one of the box tops. On the inner surface of the box part there are lines printed across the fold seams.

Assembly of the boxes is very simple. Cut the four very small attachments and fold the box into shape following the printed fold lines. The printing has pre-stressed the paper, allowing the fold to be made easily. There is a tab on one end of the box that folds inside, allowing for an attachment point. I used CA glue to attach the box, then folded in the box bottom and top into place, just like on a full size box. Total assembly time was about two minutes. The cardstock gives a nice scale appearance. The last photo on the right shows the Medical and Combat Ration boxes side-by-side.

conclusion

As mentioned above, you can assemble 8 boxes from the card. They can be used to add interest or cargo to any modern setting. The boxes can be left open and filled either with medical supplies (either scratch built or sourced elsewhere) or filled with other items of the modeler's choosing. For a scale cardboard box, this item is hard to beat.
