Introduction

Wolf, as half of Hornet and Wolf, should be well known to most in the modelling community, particularly for their excellent range of replacement heads. What we don’t see that often is mention of their excellent figure range.

I have reviewed a number of their figures before on site and an opportunity in a recent model shop sale added another three of their figures to my collection.

This is a look at the 1/35 scale LRDG Trooper who has been available for some years.

The Figure

The figure comes packed in the standard professional box provided by Wolf. On the front is a good colour picture of the complete painted figure that can be used for painting reference. On the end of the box are the product details. Also included in the box is a small set of build and painting instructions to assist the modeller.

The figure is packed inside a thick plastic bag for protection and comes cast in a light cream coloured resin. This is a simple figure cast as a whole of a standing LRGD (Long Range Desert Group) Trooper. The figure is highly detailed. Minimal clean up will be required, removing the pour stub on the boots and support triangle at the back of the legs, but this should be a simple process and then you can get to the fun part, the painting.

The figure is depicted standing with the right arm/hand in the trouser pocket and the left arm at 90° across the stomach with the hand holding a cigarette.

The figure is dressed in a very appropriate desert style with Hebron coat, jacket, KD trousers, cap and boots. The face shows a rugged bearded trooper wearing a cap comforter. Around the troopers neck are a pair of goggles.

The figure measures 42mm from heel to shoulder and the body proportions look good.

Normal safety precautions apply when working with resin.

Conclusion

This is a figure that should be of interest to both figure painters as a stand alone subject or diorama builders as part of a larger scene.

The casting and detail look excellent and the figure very much fits the perception of a LRDG desert warrior. The mixed order of dress is one I’m pleased to say we are seeing more of, and overall this is a very pleasing figure that requires very little clean up work before you get to the fun part.
