There are certain complaints that are regularly leveled at kit and figure manufacturers whenever a new product is released, and that complaint is “why didn’t they supply gun 'X' with this product” or “why is there only 1 of gun 'X' as I wanted two”. Well, Dragon have a number of weapon sets on the market which I believed had gone out of production, however they seem to be turning up for sale on a regular basis now which I believe means they are being produced again in limited numbers. In this review I will be taking a look at the Modern Machine Gun set in 1/35th scale, and while not as modern as once they were they are a handy item to have at your disposal.
Contents
Inside the typical end opening box you will find four light grey sprues with two of each sprue being identical.
Review
Starting with the quality of the product in general I would say it is fair despite the age of the product. Problems such as flash are surprisingly light with nothing worth mentioning, sink marks are nonexistent as far as I can tell which is another plus in its favour. These are obviously not up to the Gen 2 quality of product from Dragon but are none the less worthy of your consideration. Each of the weapons will need to have the barrel drilled out but otherwise a very limited amount of work will be required to make this product an eye catching addition to your work.
One negative of these moulding is that the plastic seems a little brittle which may cause breakage during removal, clean up, or drilling the barrels, the only other negative is that the location of some of the moulding nipples may cause problems during cleanup as some encompass rounded detail, so take care when working on these weapons. You get two of each weapon and six ammunition belts which, for the cost, makes this a value buy in my book.
Conclusion
With the exception of some resin items hitting the market this is a very good product to get your hands on giving you a good number of options (fourteen weapon types), some of the weapons I believe are not available anywhere else in any material type. For that reason alone I highly recommend this product for your consideration.
SUMMARY
Highs: A good selection of weapons that are not available anywhere else to my knowledge make this product a high point for me.Lows: The placement of some of the flow nipples will make clean up harder than it could be and the plastic seems a little brittle.Verdict: I highly recommend you pick a set of these up if you see them as it provides a good selection of weapons when you want something out of the norm.

I have been building model kits since the early 70’s starting with Airfix kits of mostly aircraft, then progressing to the point I am at now building predominantly armour kits from all countries and time periods. Living in the middle of Salisbury plain since the 70’s, I have had lots of opportunitie...
Been waiting on a review of this kit for ages and couldn't find one anywhere online. Thanks for posting!!
I found that the plastic on the MP5/G3 set to be a little brittle as well but careful clipping helped. Can see the stock on the Galil and Negev breaking very easily though.
Thanks for doing this review Darren- I think for the price and content this is an excellent set to have close to hand for modellers, especially for those interested in more modern subjects.
There is a kit review....I wrote it a loooooooooong time ago. More of a reference to the guns really than a review about the quality of the machine guns.
