Introduction

J's Work is a Chinese manufacturer of diorama products for modelers with a growing range of products in 1/35 and 1/48 scales. This review will look at a set from their Diorama Accessories Series, U.S. ration boxes in 1/35 scale.

the kit

This set comes printed on a single piece of heavy paper stock in a light tan color, enclosed in a plastic sleeve. There are a total of twelve boxes, laser-cut on the paper, with very small attachment points that are easily removed with a sharp hobby knife. Each of the boxes is marked on the reverse side with a line (slight burn mark from the laser?) where each fold is to be made. This allows the paper to be bent easily along the line to make the box.

There are six each of two types of menu. They are:
Menu #1, second half of five rations
Menu #2, first half of five rations
Each box has some illegible fine printing under the menu type, and the menu type is printed on both sides of the box. There is also some very fine print on the top tab. I didn't have anything small enough to measure the boxes with to check for scale dimensions, but the boxes did seem to match photos I have seen online of the ration types.

Assembly of the individual boxes is simple. Fold along the lines, then glue the box ends and bottom, and if you want it closed, the box top. I used CA glue for a quick, sturdy bond, but regular white school glue works just fine as well. Assembly of all the boxes took about 15 minutes.

other similar from J’s Work

J's Work have released a second US menu set, PPA3022, that contains the second set of rations to go with this set. J's Work products are available exclusively through Lucky Model. This set sells for $2.99 US, with free shipping.

conclusion

I think this is a very nice, simple, inexpensive, quick to assemble set. I can't vouch for exact scale size, but they do look the part, and are very nice to have.
SUMMARY
Highs: Simple, easy to assemble and ready to use.
Lows: I was not able to measure the boxes for scale size, my problem, not theirs.
Verdict: I think this is an excellent product that will make a nice accessory for a model kit or diorama build.

I got back into the hobby a few years back, and wanted to find ways to improve, which is how I found this site. Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...
