J's Work is a Chinese manufacturer of modeling products for dioramas, including plastic model kits, paper plant series, terrain series, and the diorama accessories series. This review looks at one of the latest releases in the diorama accessories series, WWII US Menu 1 & Menu 2, set 2. This is the second half of rations to accompany set PPA3021, also reviewed here on Armorama.
the boxes
The ration boxes come on a piece of heavy paper, tan in color, placed in a plastic sleeve. The boxes are laser cut in the paper, with small connecting tabs left to hold them in place and can be easily removed with a sharp hobby knife. The boxes have printing on the front side and a small line at each fold point on the rear surface that appears to have been made by the laser. This not only shows where to make the fold but also makes the fold easier.
There are a total of 6 ration boxes on the paper, with 3 of each type:
• Menu #1, second half of five rations
• Menu #2, first half of five rations
The boxes are printed on both front and back sides. I was not able to measure the boxes and so cannot verify the scale accuracy, but they do appear to match photos I have seen online of the ration boxes.
Assembly of the ration boxes is simple. Once removed from the paper, they are easily folded along the lines. There is an end tab that allows the box sides to be connected and then the box ends are folded in. I experimented and folded one box to make it appear to have been previously opened. The paper was sturdy enough to allow the overlap of the box top tabs without tearing. I used CA glue to make the boxes but white school glue will work just fine. Total assembly of the boxes took less than ten minutes.
conclusion
This is a simple, inexpensive, easy to make and use set. There are no rations to go in the box, but they can be displayed closed, or filled with items of your choice. Maybe J's Work will produce a set of ration cans and pouches in the future. The boxes can easily be placed on a vehicle or added to a diorama to add some interest.
J's Work products are available exclusively through Lucky Model. This set is priced at $2.99 US, with free shipping.
SUMMARY
Highs: These boxes are easy to make and ready to use. Lows: I was not able to verify the dimensions of the boxes for accuracy.Verdict: This is an excellent, thoughtful accessory set for the modeler.

I got back into the hobby a few years back, and wanted to find ways to improve, which is how I found this site. Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...
