A review of the Aber 48l03 U.S 75mm M 3 Tank barrel for M4 Sherman
the kit
The kit contains one 75mm turned aluminium barrel and one Instruction sheet.
Aber are a well known company that produce aftermarket barrels and etch for a wide range of subjects in all the conventional scales. I have been a happy customer with them for a while now, and they are one of my current go-to companies for Aftermarket.
This upgrade set from Aber is simplicity in itself. It is designed for the Tamiya kit, but with a few minutes, and a drill bit or knife,it can be made to fit the Hobbyboss kit.
The barrel is 45mm long from tip to base, and at the business end is 2mm wide and 4.5mm at the base before it tapers to a thinner section that fits directly into the corresponding Tamiya part. To convert the part for Hobbyboss you need to open up the gun shield, and the moveable swivel part to the corresponding size, and it fits right in. Simple.
The instructions are really simple, and you need no further explanation to make it easier. It’s easier than putting on a t-shirt, or making a cup of tea. The barrel appears correct and in proportion, and for the scale has some impressive rifling in the barrel end. There are no surface blemishes, and it’s a great and well priced addition to your 1/48 Sherman.
conclusion
Definitely a “must have” for anybody seeking that little bit extra for their 1/48 Sherman.
SUMMARY
Highs: Simple, Effective, Easy to fit. Lows: Nothing I can really say here.. Verdict: A great first aftermarket piece. looks great, and is an inexpensive upgrade.
