This book, written by Jim Winchester, designed by Amber Books of London, and published by Chartwell Books Inc. of New Jersey, has got to be one of the most comprehensive little books concerning the subject of armor and AFVs used during WWII that I have seen in a long time. Don't let the small format size of this book fool you! Each page is chock full of color illustrations, photographs, tables and text of some of the best known fighting vehicles of WWII.
The book includes a full color three way illustration of each vehicle featured, with supporting text, action photographs, and specification tables detailing the dimension, speed, range, engine type and power output of each vehicle respectively.
BOOK FORMAT
7" Wide x 5" High, 320 pages, 375 photos and illustrations.
Paperback, with glued and sewn binding for durability.
CONTENTS
The books contents are broken down into five separate sections, as follows:
I. Introduction
II. Axis-Germany, Italy, and Japan
III. Allies-U.S., United Kingdom. Canada, Soviet Union, and France
IV. Glossary
V. Index
I can see that this book can be an invaluable aid to all modelers of AFVs and Armor with full color plates to accurately replicate the vehicles that are represented inside, to help the modelist to build, paint, and finish any of these vehicles. Also included is a glossary of common terms and definitions in the back of the publication.
CONCLUSION
Personally, for a book of its size and cost, you really couldn't ask for much more! The color plates are clear and concise, and extremely well defined, as the photographs, tables, and supporting text will tell you enough about each vehicle to impress the most discerning military enthusiast. But you really have to see this book to believe it! Highly recommended for both the modeler and AFV nut alike. Check out Amber Books Web site also, there are a multitude of other military related titles that would be a terrific help and reference source!
Many thanks to Amber Books of London, Chartwell Books of New Jersey, Jim Winchester and Barnes and Noble Books for providing us modelers with such an excellent information source.
