Introduction

This is a look at the fourth of 4 figures recently produced by Resicast for the Western Desert, specifically LRDG soldiers to compliment the Tamiya 1/35 Chevrolet or associated LRDG vehicles.
The figure was sculpted by Gerard De Troeye.

The figure

Packed in the standard Resicast format for their figures, this one depicts a seated officer of the Long Range Desert Group. The parts are packed in a small zip plastic bag, and then a second larger zip plastic bag that contains a photo of the completed figure plus a coloured information sheet outlining the clothing being worn and three colour pictures of the completed figures.

The figure is cast in a light grey resin and consists of 5 parts. The body is cast as a whole with separate arms, head and cap. The figure is dressed in a mixture of desert clothing: what looks like a Tank Top civilian type jumper, standard issue shirt with trousers and wearing a Wolseley helmet.

The right arm, which is a separate item, has nice detail and is designed to rest on the right hip. The left arm is extended slightly at an angel of approx 90%.

The head shows the face of a mature man with a beard and moustache. The facial detail is excellent and over the eye the figure is wearing an early pair of sun goggles. These are the circular lens type with the leather side patches. To attach to the head you get a Wolseley style pith helmet. There were many styles of pith helmet from when they first appeared in the 1840s and the Wolseley style was widely used by the British Army from the 1900s.

The uniform has nice folds/creases, and for variety around the waist the figure wears a cartridge belt and pistol in a leather holster. All the clothing appears to have the right design for the period and overall the detail looks excellent. A pair of boots/shoes complete the order of dress.

The figure measures approx 44mm from heel to shoulder so a very acceptable height.

Conclusion

This is another excellent figure, well sculpted and cast. The mixed order of dress is one I’m very glad to see and this chap will look the part in a desert setting.

Clothing would be worn to suit the time/season of the year and this chap certainly looks the part. The relaxed seated pose is, I felt, quite natural.

It is worth mentioning here that it is likely that another 4 LRDG troopers plus a couple of head sets are likely in the near future.

About Alan McNeilly (AlanL)
FROM: ENGLAND - EAST ANGLIA, UNITED KINGDOM

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...
