Introduction

Following on from some recent reviews of Sovereign 2000 kits this is a look at a new (to me anyway) figure, that of a British Tanker seated on a Fuel Can.

The Western Desert of North Africa has always been a popular modelling area for both Allied and Axis modellers. Sovereign have brought us a nice generic figure in this offering, so let us see what the figure is like.

The figure

The figure comes packed in the standard Sovereign 2000 small cardboard box which displays the product and manufacturer's details in a picture of the built figure. The parts are contained in a small zip bag.

Cast in a light cream coloured resin the figure was free from damage.

Comprising 7 parts the figure depicts that of a seated British Tanker. The legs, arms, head, body and fuel cans are all separate items. The figure is dressed in KD Shorts, Shirt, Light Weight Jumper and Leather Jerkin. Hose, Anklets and Ammo Boots complete the dress.

The figure is seated on two late style jerry cans and the pose is relaxed and natural-looking. The cans are a separate single item and come without handles to aid the pose. The uniform has good detail and nice-looking natural creases and folds. The parts will require very little clean-up other than removing the pour stubs. The Hose, Anklets and ammo boots are all well done.

The head shows the face of a young man wearing a tanker's beret with goggles on top. Again the detail is excellent.

This is a simple figure to build, I built him whilst writing this review. You will need a sharp razor saw and modelling knife. The legs have small pins to locate them correctly and the arms fitted snugly as appropriate.

Normal precautions apply when working with resin.

Conclusion

An excellent figure, with fine sharp detail, who should be of interest to both figure painters and diorama builders alike.

Although marketed as a Tanker, with a simple change of head he will fit just about any unit in North Africa. I’m glad the cans came as a separate item, which allows greater flexibility of use.

The pose and build look correct for the scale and he will make a welcome addition to those NA troops already available.
