Introduction

SB Models have recently acquired a number of ex-Resicast figures from their OOP range. These are being marketed under a new label, that of Abbey Miniatures, and are starting to become available. Many of you will already know SB Models from previous reviews of the SB Scotia accessories range.
This is a look at the first of these figures 35001 depicting a British Tanker in Pixie Suit Reading a Map.

The figure

The figure comes packed in a double zip bag with a paper insert containing a colour picture of the completed figure and outlining the new manufacturers details. Cast in a light grey resin, the figure consists of 4 parts; the body cast as a whole with separate arms and head. The figure is depicted wearing a Pixie Suit, standing with his left leg crossed casually over the right. The uniform is very well done, having the correct pockets and fastenings all present and correct. The figure has lost none of its sharpness in detail or quality as a result of the switch of manufacturer.

The sculpting is excellent and the uniform has nice natural folds and creases. Around the waist the figure wears a 37 pattern belt complete with pistol holster and small ammunition pouch. The belt and holster/pouch are all well done, the brasses for the belt being present on the front and rear and appropriate studs present on the holster and pouch. A pair of ammo boots completes the body and only 4 small pour stubs will need to be removed from the boots. The casting is excellent and I could see no damage or air bubbles present.

The left and right arms come as separate items, both being bent at the elbows. The left hand holds a map case, but you will have to provide your own map. The right hand looks to be designed to hold a pencil or pen. The fastenings are present on the cuffs, and the map case looks well done too.

The head provided with the figure shows the face of quite a tough looking man, portraying a look of concentration on his face. The facial detail is excellent, and to complete the head he wears a tankers helmet with netting along with a pair of goggles around the outside. From heal to shoulder the figure stands about 43mm, so a very acceptable height. Overall the body proportions look excellent so this should give modelers a very attractive figure to work with.

Conclusion

This was a very good figure when it was introduced to the market and I am pleased to see that it has been given a new lease of life by SB Models, aka Abbey Miniatures. Clean up should be minimal so you can get to the fun part pretty quick. The detail, pose and posture of the figure are all excellent. This chap should be of interest to both figure painters and diorama builders alike and my congratulations to Stewart from SB Models for keeping this one available.
