Conversion set for the Centurion Mk III in 1/25

by: Ross Spenard [ TROOP10 ]

This review, as was my review of MA408, also deals with the top of the Centurion Mk III turret. One of the upgrades applied to most variants of the Centurion was the addition of an Infra Red lamp and providing the tank commander with a weapon. The Australians elected to arm their Centurions with a .30 cal. GPMG while Canadian Centurion commanders had the luxury of the M2, .50 cal., heavy machine gun. MA410 addresses both these conversions as applied to Australian Centurions.

MA410 comprises 8 pieces of light tan resin. A .30 cal. GPMP (carrier and barrel), cupola mount (2 pieces), and ammo box provide the commander’s weapon. An Infra Red lamp, rear mounting bracket for the IR lamp, and the mantle mounting bracket are also
part of MA410.

As mentioned in my review of MA408 the casting detail is quite good but there is a fair amount of flash present on all of the parts. These pieces will require carefully cleaning to remove the flash but leave the piece undamaged as the resin is quite thin on several of the parts.

Also included with MA408 is a set of instructions with black and white images of the IR lamp, the mounting bracket, and directions for attaching the electrical connections and carrying handles. A visit at Steel – Thunder will provide Centurion fans with a wealth of reference photographs.
