J’s Work is a fairly new company and is known for its pre-cut paper products and camo masks. Now J’s is venturing into the world of plastic with its second Modern City set called “Check Point.”
the set
The kit is made up of two sprues molded in gray with no flash visible. The instructions are located on the back of the box calling out part numbers, but there is no painting guide provided. You can use the box instructions since it is in color as your painting guide. Included in the kit are:
• 3 water barriers
• 2 metal fences
• 5 traffic cones
• 3 concrete barriers
• 1 concrete end barrier
• 1 lamp post
Although the kit is great as is, there is room to add extra detail. The traffic cones are hollow, but as an added detail, you can hollow out the tip of the cone. The fence connectors could be drilled out so you can attach both fences together. The water barriers do not have any caps where the water is to go in, so those can be added. As for the street lamp, it has the possibility to be lit up by using mini led’s for those so inclined.
SUMMARY
Highs: Nominal price for items that at first were only available in resin.
Very easy to add extra details too.Lows: No paint guide provided.
Sold excusively through Lucky Models.Verdict: Rather than working with resin or scratch building your own, and for a nominal price, this set is a welcome to modern day dioramas. This set is highly recommended for those building modern day street dioramas.
