Introduction

Black Dog has been going for some time now and have brought a nice selection of resin additions to the market for your models, be they armoured fighting vehicles, aircraft, and even ships of late. They have also ventured into vignette bases and photo etched items, lastly they have built up a good selection of resin figures which interestingly are predominantly modern figures representing a number of nations. In this review I will taking a look at Black Dog’s British Modern Equipment accessories set.

Contents

The product is packaged in an end opening box with a picture of the included product that has been painted. In my case the interior was filled with polystyrene peanuts to prevent damage to the contents during transit. Inside the box you will find;
• Rucksack 25ltr DPM x 4
• Mission bag 75ltr x 2
• Forces rucksack 85 pattern x 2
• Compression bag x 2
• Camel pack x 2
• Goretex rucksack cover over PLCE style rucksack x 2
• PLCE (Personal Load Carrying Equipment) style rucksack x 2
• Special forces Viking patrol pack x 2
• Multi cam tomahawk elite rucksack x 2
• 25ltr water jerrycans X 5
• Roll mats x 4
• Osprey body armour x 2
• Generic 2ltr clear plastic water bottles x 3
• Burghaus Vulcan Burgen x 2

Review

Starting this review with first impressions seems as good a place as any and it was a positive first impression. There are a good number of pieces of kit in this offering; 36 in all which should be enough kit for 3 to 4 vehicles in reasonable quantities or a couple of vehicles loaded for bear. Casting quality is first rate with no obvious faults during the casting or curing process apparent to me. The pouring plugs may be a challenge to remove but that is the only difficulty you may encounter as this is some very fine casting judging by the detail imparted.

Accuracy and detail would seem to be very good as the items were able to be identified against pictures of equipment on the internet where personal knowledge was lacking, and while I was unable to measure the real items they do look appropriate to scale. A very good aspect of this set is the very fine straps depicted where appropriate, for hanging the items on the outside of vehicles or for that matter shown in the hands of military personnel which is a very nice touch and speaks well for the packaging that no breakages occurred. The roll mats have a hole in one end which if replicated at the other end when removed from the pour plug allows them to be shown mounted on a vehicle by way of a bungee (popular with some British troops).

The sets of Interceptor body armour are a great inclusion in the set as I cannot recall seeing unworn body armour available anywhere else to date. The wide selection of equipment is mostly kit introduced from the 1990’s and still in current use, this allows those who like to modify their troops. With some work the modeler can depict infantry heavily laden with personal equipment.

Conclusion

This set of British Modern Equipment accessories is a great mixed set of items allowing a number of vehicles to be festooned with kit to create eye catching areas. The only thing I would like to have seen included with the set is a decal set of Union flags as most British kit has a flag attached on to the packs (this is not a military requirement) and of course more water bottles would have been a big plus. All that said this is a great addition that will be of use to anyone depicting British vehicles or troops in the field and one set that you can dip into for a single item or a handful of items.

I also wanted to say that now I have edited the pictures in this review I am even more impressed than I was originally as the level and attention to detail is stunning.
SUMMARY
Highs: The high points of this product for me is that it provides a wide choice of kit for British forces and in this example perfectly cast.
Lows: The only possible complaint is that no Union flag decals were included which are commonly applied to packs by British troops.
Verdict: A great selection of Modern British personal kit that should be a must for anyone building modern British vehicles or figures.

I like the idea from Blackdog to make some modern equipment. Very usefull. There is a mistake in the review kit: The body armor is an OSPREY not an INTERCEPTOR.
