Introduction

In a follow up to the release of the 2S1 Gvozdika from Trumpeter they have also released a set of workable tracks specifically to fit the 2S1 and also the MT-LB Series of Soviet Armored troop carrier.

Contents

The kit is packaged in a substantial cardboard box that should insure the tracks reach you as intended. Inside the box you will find two bags which contain;
9 sprues of track horns
132 track links

Review

The track links are crisply molded 2 to a spur with all of the ones I checked free of flash and so clean up will be quick and easy. A razor blade or sprue cutter will do the job of removing them with very little clean up being required. The track horns are supplied 59 to a sprue which if again removed razor blade or sprue cutter should not require any clean up. Once removed and glued to the top of the track they look very affective. Clicking the completed track links together to form a complete set of tracks, is an easy enough procedure and if so desired can be set with glue once placed on the vehicle. For the 2S1 Gvozdika you will need 59 track links and 118 guide horns per side. You will find a few extra links and guide horns for the next build or as may be the case in the event of a mistake some spares. I could not verify the number of links required for the MT-LB.

Conclusion

If you want a workable set of tracks for your build and do not want the cost of metal tracks this may be a good set to try. Construction is straight forward and should not cause any problems regardless of skill level or experience. Building the track is a little labor intensive as you are working with small parts, also the alignment of the 2 horns will have to be watched as the glue bonds. The snap fit was not as tight as I would have liked it to be and the tracks can separate if put into a bind, painting may help remedy this or you can glue them after application as suggested in the review.

SUMMARY
Highs: A nice set of workable plastic tracks to replace a set of fixed tracks, and an alternative to metal tracks at quite a savings.
Lows: Small parts that require time to assemble and with time you will have a working set of tracks.
Verdict: An alternative to metal tracks and ease of assembly make this a good choice for replacing fixed or rubber band tracks on your next Russian build.
