Introduction

Most of you will have seen the excellent LRDG upgrade sets for the Tamiya 30cwt Chevrolet Truck produced by Resicast. One of the items featured in the sets are the correct replacement UK sand channels.

This small PE fret has been released as a separate item for use with jeeps and LRDG trucks for those who don’t want the full conversion set.

The Set

The set comes in the standard packing for Resicast small items and contains a card insert showing manufacturer and product details with a colour picture of the item for reference.

The set contains 4 x sand channels for use as you see fit. The detailing is good but you will need to bend the channels in to the appropriate shape, and the set also contains some holding hooks and what I believe are straps to wrap around the channels if you want to.

You'll need a sharp modelling knife to remove the channels and a flat file to smooth off any small points left over from removing them from the attachment points. I used the RP PE bending tool I purchased after I saw Darren's review of that particular bit of kit.

The channels measure a length of 50mm x 4mm tread width x 3mm side height(2) ie: 10mm wide when flat.

Conclusion

A handy set of sand channels for detailing your vehicles and replacing the heavier Tamiya Parts. These would also be suitable for jeeps, armoured cars and most other wheeled vehicles used in the desert campaign.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...
