Wooden Gate, straight

by: Russ Amott [ RUSSAMOTTO ]

Introduction

Plus Model has expanded their line up of diorama settings with a new "straight" wooden gate. The gate, made for squared openings is made on thin balsa wood, laser cut and detailed.

Review

The set includes two thin balsa sheets with two face sections per gate door. This allows for detail on both sides while simplifying assembly. Additional slats and braces are added to each side to increase detail and depth.

Assembly of the sections was fairly simple, although the balsa is thin and very fragile. As evidence in the accompanying photos, some of the edges of the balsa sheet broke off during shipping but all kit parts were intact.

I used white glue to assemble the gate-a bad choice as the thin wood warps easily. CA would have been a better choice, I think. Once assembled, I ran the sides along a piece of sand paper to finish off the edges and the completed gate doors are very nice looking.

This is a simple set that with very little time and effort can be assembled into a very nice looking diorama accessory.

Price is listed at Plus Model's website as $11.50 US, or about 8.50 in Euros.

Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...
