Introduction

Adding detail to you dioramas is a constant for modellers. Reality in Scale have a set of large and small tin cans that may be of use to you.

The Set

The set comes packed in a neat rectangular hard plastic box. On the top of the box is a label with manufacturer and product details.

Inside the box are 4 pour blocks with 3/4 cans per block. The cans are cast in a light cream coloured resin. Two of the blocks contain 3 different size fairly large cans and the remaining two blocks contain 4 cans of smaller sizes.

The cans have nice ring detail on the top and should look good when painted and with the decals added.

Also in the box are a set of decals for the cans and a set of decal instructions. You need to ensure that you cut the decals cleanly from the white backing paper before soaking them and applying them to the cans, otherwise you may have a white edge around the outside of the label. The decals appear to date from the 1930s although some may be of an earlier date.

In total you have 14 cans with 7 different sizes x 2, so a nice selection of tinned goods if you need a display or some liberated stores.

The cans would appear to represent a selection of early 1900s American goods. Markings are for:

Bonvallet Asparagus
Boy Blue Fruit
Cloth or Gold Cut Wax Beans
Dutch Boy California Fruits
Boris Tomatoes
Del Monte ? Peas
Bay Beauty Salmon
and several others I couldn't read.

Conclusion

I'll need to do a bit more research to see how far back the set can be used but the 20/30s forward seems reasonable but it would be nice if you could use them from the 1900s onwards.

A nice little diorama accessory that will add a little extra to your build.

About Alan McNeilly (AlanL)
FROM: ENGLAND - EAST ANGLIA, UNITED KINGDOM

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...
