Built Review
USMC OIF Set #2 - M16 & M249 Gunners

by: Pete Becerra [ EPI ]

When I first looked at the box art, I thought to myself, "Out Freaking Standing!" That's a lot coming from an Army non-com talking about Marine stuff. Then I opened the clam shell box and it was even better than I expected.
But the packaging is also where my only complaint is. The figures are placed in a little zip-lock bag inside the clam shell with out any padding or "popcorn." The bipod for the M249 was broken, so I had to scrounge for another

In the box

Ok, on to the review. The figures are cast in Warriors typical off white, cream color resin. The upper and lower torso's are molded as one piece on both figures. Each figure consist of the full body, left and right arms, head, and weapon with molded on hands. Both figures are wearing the USMC MARPAT uniform and standard IBA (Interceptor Body Armor).
The M249 gunner is wearing the MOLLE suspenders with pouches attached. His helmet has goggles molded on with a protective "sock" over them The M-16 gunner has a Camelbak hydration system molded on, but there is no drinking tube. The builder will have to add that with some thin solder or other type of wire. He is also carrying an AT4 over his butt pack.

Building Marines

Construction of the figures went pretty good. There are locating pins on the arms and head so that they line up correctly. No filler was needed since the fit was right on. You do have to take care when attaching the weapons with hands to the arms. Special care needs to be taken to assure that the hands join correctly with the arms. A word of caution, be very careful handling the weapons, they are fragile. I managed to snap off the barrel of the M16, but it was an easy fix

Well, that's pretty much it. These figures are highly recommended and would be a great addition to a small vignette or a large diorama. I can't wait to see the next OIF set's coming from Warriors
Stay tuned in and I will be adding a short "how to" on painting the Desert MARPAT in 1/35th scale.
