Introduction

Don’t you just love these guys? Seems like every month Plusmodel out of the Czech Republic comes up with another cool accessory, resin kit, or conversion set. This month is no exception, Cushman scooters, hay wagons, and the subject of this short review; military boxes.

Review

Here is the low down; five wooden military style boxes from a single, laser cut, piece of thin wood. I think that the wood they are using for this is basswood as it is much tougher than balsa. Each of the boxes is made up of 16 separate pieces. The top, bottom, 2 sides, 3 reinforcing ribs for both the top and bottom and two reinforcing strips for each end for the total of 16 pieces for each box. Each of the reinforcing ribs is detailed with appropriate nail holes (!). The top, bottom, and sides have the indication for the slats milled out as well.

The Build

I couldn’t resist and cut one out to put together which you can see off to the right here. I found that using a sharp, chisel blade which I could use by applying pressure straight down until the part popped free worked best. A little white glue to hold the sides and end pieces in place was pretty easy, a dab of glue for each of the reinforcing ribs and that’s about it. I did need to give each end a quick pass or two with a sanding stick to get a nice square piece. The whole thing took me a little over ten minutes to put together the first box, so anyone with even the least amount of experience shouldn’t have any trouble with these. More experienced builders may want to drill out a couple of holes on each end for a rope handle which should be a pretty easy add on.

Conclusion

A great way to quickly and easily dress up the back of a cargo truck or really anywhere in a diorama. These should prove to be another popular accessory for builders of almost any time period.
