In-Box Review
U.S. Pointman Europe WWII

by: Rob Lively [ HUSKY1943 ]

Parts and gear

This U.S. Army G.I. comes in a sturdy plastic box packed inside a plastic bag. The figure comes in nine separate pieces with the body, arms, canteen, medical kit, head and rifle. He is holding a Garand in his left hand and throwing a hand grenade with his right hand. He is dressed for cooler weather with a scarf and long sleeves.

The GI wearing the two-part M1944 pack called “combat and cargo” because the upper portion contained the ‘combat essentials’ while the lower separate part carried non-essential kit and gear. This pack became standardized in July 1944. This figure would work anywhere in the ETO, from mid/late 1944 to the end of the war, as well as a non-American soldier in any number of actions immediately after WWII.

Clean up and construction

The molding on this figure is the standard high quality of a Warriors figure. The lines are crisp and very well detailed. The detail on the figure is wonderful. I like that all the pieces are molded separately. That makes painting them so much easier. While there is some flash to clean up on the body and the rifle, I was really impressed with the lack of mold lines to clean up. The only thing you would need to add is the rifle strap. If you wanted, you could customize the figure a little by carving off the cargo (lower) section of the pack, or by adding a blanket roll to the top of the pack, or doing both.

The only drawback to this figure is that the prominent pour stub for the head is located at the very top of the helmet. This makes for difficult clean up, since any mistake could ruin the shape of the helmet. The arms have large pour stubs also, but with the folds and wrinkles of the blouse, it’s more forgiving. One note: The boots depicted on the cover example on the box appear almost black. They should be russet or leather brown.
gain, Warriors does a superb job!! I highly recommend this figure.
