I am primarily a ship modeler but I am starting to expand my horizons, so to speak, by building some aircraft and armor models. Kitmaker sites have certainly helped me with this endeavor as well as my ship modeling. I started building models in 1971/72 when I was 6 or 7. I have fond memories of going to the local Woolworths buying Aurora and Revell ship, airplane and tank kits. Do you remember the Aurora tank kits with the vacuum-formed terrain bases? I thought those were so cool. My dad started taking me to Toy City in the Jackson Heights section of Queens, New York. They carried Airfix kits and to a young kid from Queens those were downright exotic! Like most of us, I stopped building models when I became a teen. I started playing guitar in bands and chasing girls. I started up again after I finished graduate school when I brought a Revell SS United States kit at a yard sale. That is when I "discovered" photoetch which really opened things up for me. My dad loved ships and I guess it was in the genes as they are my modeling passion. But look out cause you will see some airplanes and tanks from me soon.
