Born in Alexandria, Va. in 1958, I have been modelling since 1965. As a child my family visited nearly every Civil War Battlefield in Virginia and Maryland as well as Gettysburg on numerous occassions. Even as a 6 or 7 year old I was always enthralled with the shadowbox diorama displays present at each Battlefield Museum. I built my first diorama in 5th grade as a history project using a shoebox and Airfix "H/O Men" - WWI Germans and Brits in a trench battle.... got an 'A' on it too. My first 1/35th scale diorama didn't win any a awards in 1977, but it wasn't too shabby for a first attempt. Ever since, I have emersed myself in placing my scale model subject matter in as life-like a setting as is possible. Over the years one thing has held true: An otherwise mediocre model will always look better if the diorama groundwork is well thought out and executed. rb
