One campaign where you won't see any Tigers
Be absolutely magnificent to see something without a German in sight!
Don't be so sure. What if someone decides to build a hypothetical Tiger that the Germans supposedly lent to the Japanese?

Good point about the Aleutians. I believe that is where elements of the 10th Mountain Division first saw action. Sadly it resulted in several casualties from friendly fire only.
I saw a wild story on the History channel not long ago about a giant aircraft carrier that was supposed to be sent to the northern Pacific made out of Pycrete (ice and saw dust). And an underwater submarine base that was being tested there as well to protect Alaska and launch assaults on Japanese shipping from the North.
The Pacific was jast as full of crazy happenings as Europe but has been left as the little known twin brother of the Second World War. Its amazing how selective history can be eh?
-Mike
PS: Does anyone have an idea as to where I can find a Higgins type boat that was used in the Pacific? I have searched every hobby shop in my area and the internet to little success. I need it in 1/35. Thanks!

This campaign has been approved, please get back to either TacFireGuru or myself with a backup leader before the start date.

Bob: very good point! The city where I live (Terrace, BC), and one only 90 miles away (Prince Rupert) were very definitely affected by the Japanese occupation of the Aleutian Islands. My mother lived through air raid drills (not actual air raids) when she was a child growing up in Rupert, and our airport here in Terrace came about directly because of the war. While no armor that I'm aware of was stationed here, we did have Hawker Hurricanes, bunkers, and AAA here. A few of the barracks are still standing and in use, even! But trying to find info on all of this is difficult.
Everybody else: While we're discussing this, let's not forget about the Phillipines! US Army forces there took one hell of a beating, all the while hoping for "the aid" that didn't come until after Wendell Fertig began his guerilla campaign.

Great news with the approval! Anyone willing to be a back-up leader? I do not see any problems for myself so it would not be a lot of work.
Thanks for the great news! You can now enlist on the campaign tab!

PS: Wake Island. Talk about hung out to dry. A relief fleet was only miles away and turned around!

OK, I'm in.
I haven't done a campaign in a while. I'll have to build something a little different. A few months to hit the books and find a kit.

Great, my LHS had the Tamiya Chi-Ha on sale so bought that one yesterday. It will fit perfectly into the campaign.
Looking forward to starting the campaign

I built a Japanese tank of the 7th TR months ago.
I still have a couple more tanks I can use here for the campaign.
Didn't the largest tank battle of the Pacific occur in the Philippines?

Mike,
I don't know if this is known or not.
For ideas and Reference I suggest going to this site
HYPERWAR These all have descriptions of the battles with reference photos and they also have topics like boat handling and shore party beach markers, etc...
Also I have a number of books for reference so if someone needs info please drop me a line and I'll see what I can do. I can't remember where I found half of the reference material so I would only be able to email what I have so not to infringe on any copyrights.
Hope this helps,
Bob

Mike, is a vehicle a must as I was debating whether to go for infantry bunker clearing on Iwo Jima?

I'm after the basic DML USMC Iwo Jima set but all I can find is the premium one which I don't want as I'm planning on replacing the heads with Hornet ones anyway and resent paying twice as much for a few etched slings. Any clues anyone? Doesn't matter where they are as they're going on the card anyway so locations not a problem. Also if anyone wants to do some swaps I've got a pile of allsorts of Jerry figures in various states. Ideally I'm after DML Japs as well. I have a nasty feeling that this is going to be one of my big dios again after watching loads of Iwo Jima footage
. Thats why I'm wanting to start building up a stockpile...

Karl, I can't help with the kit right now as I have not seen one in a while either. I will be going to a few shops this weekend for myself, but I will most definately keep my eyes open for you.

I'm having the same feeling myself. I have been talking to my great uncles about their time over there, and I have been watching loads of footage I have from the history channel and time/life.

Guys,
I recently finished my build for the Puffing Dragon Campaign and would like to join this one. Me and Karl have close to the same idea on what to build. Have have been experimenting with modelling flame and want to try a man portable flame thower. I just got the Tarawa DML Marines kit and want to do a small diorama of a fire team taking out a bunker. If you guys will let me join I'll go to the campaign page and enlist.

Hard choice but I finally made up my mind.
I am going to try and recreate this scene;
I’ve wanted to try this for a long time and I think now I’m actually able to do an accurate diorama of this scene. Maybe a minute or 2 before the picture, still haven’t quite be able to make figures, so I have to settle for some that are close and make the diorama showing the photo just about to be taken. Still have over a month for the final pieces, I already have about 90% of everything I need.
So much to do and so little time.
Bob
