Just came across this thread and enjoyed reading it. Great job on the panther, and the figures look great too, any chance of some close up shots?

Couple of other questions:

Who makes the schwimmenwagen? Is that the Italeri version?

What happened too the two guys on the turret?

Good job, shame they were picky on your 'debris placement'!

James

Thanks James,
I`ll see if I can take some photos, the camera is back.
Schwimmwagen is,correctly, Italeri, but I would have been happier if I`d waited for Tamiya`s
The two guys on the turret were left out due to the lack of time for the contest, and I didn`t have a good vibe...It looked too crowded at the time...

Excellent job! I really like the wood grain effect. Would you share your technique on how you achieved it?

Awesome job with the Panther and the overall diorama, really enjoyed watching this thread. Thanks for taking the time to post your pictures, nice to see a storyboard of in-progress models!

Nicely done! Cheers!

it was a first for me, but it is something that I will continue to use...
I did a base coat of Tamiyas Dark yellow(any brand will do,as long it`s acrylic),or Buff if you like, let it dry. I have 4 basic artists oils which I use,and for this I use Burnt sienna & Burnt umber. Blot the surface with sienna & umber,it doesn`t have to be completely covered, than use a wider brush to smear it allover. Give some time,5 min, than use a stiff brush and start gently brushing away the oils, leaving a light coat so the colour becomes woodish, leaving also the base colour. now,let it dry for a while,1 hour(the oils dry really long,so beware of that!). now use burnt umber, blot at severall places, this will be the grain. use the stiff brush again and start gently "pulling" the grain in desired direction. the oils usuall dry after 3 days so no touching with your fingers! and dries as a semigloss, but a little to the matt side

Thanks for the close-up pics,
I like the sprayed helmet camo - its rare that people give this a go.
Good job on the figs anyway they look great.

James
