Carl, great looking diorama. The layout is very good. I can understand your problem with fitting in the another vehicle. Maybe if you move the KT more centrally on the base and add the third vehicle on the outside of the KT at almost a parallel angle?
Andrzej, good job on the tank commander and the camo on the King Tiger!.
Eric, you are really "pimp'ing up" that Sherman Your attention to detail is great. Cannot wait to see what you will do with the superstructure
Looking forward to see more

I have been muddying up the half track and finnished two more figures. Not enough to spend time photographing on.

Excellent modifications, Eric! I'm contemplating the use of a spare Dragon exhaust grill on my Jumbo and your shots show just how to do that. I'm eager to see further progress on your Jumbo. Keep up the great work! Dave

Gentlepeople, it's looking good! Jesper, I like what you've done with the Wespe. It's come alive rather nicely, and I'm curious to see what you'll do with the '88. Carl, that's a nice little piece of history you're putting together there. It's looking great, and your mods are bang-on, guy! Andrzej, again, the KT looks good, guy.
Eric, it's great to see what you're doing with your Tamiya Shermie... I've got their Easy Eight with a 105 mm gun (I guess all the Easy Eights had a 105... duh!) coming, eventually. (The LHS is having a hard time getting it. ) It's good to have some idea of what I'll be facing when it arrives and I start working on it.
For myself, the first aid course is nearly done... written exam tomorrow morning and practical Tuesday morning. All this studying is making me suffer withdrawal! I need glue! I need paint! And the hell of it is... now they want me to take an Instructor Certification Program! But at least that's not quite so time-consuming... I'll have time for a life in-between classes, if you know what I mean. Poor SWMBO gets a little neglected the way things have been, too. Maybe this afternoon I can get a little modelling done... at least finish a set of figures, I hope.
Excellent stuff, folks... and looking forwards to seeing more!

Nice work so far people! I'm finishing up two other campaigns (White Washed at Armorama and Crossing the Rhine at Kitmaker Benelux) before I'll start on this one.

Hi guys, just a verbal update to let you know I have started work on my entry.
I have decided against using my Lina Stalina base (as seen in one of Jesper's earlier posts) and am just using my Mirage bunker with some modifications as my other idea was going to be too 'cluttered, for a diorama, and instead by scaling things down I should be able to create a nice little peice of some GI's storming the bunker on the seigfried line.
Mirage's bunker is a nice peice, with good details although a little 'plain'. The fit needs to be addressed in a couple of places and some 'woodgrain' detail (a by-product of the concrete casting process) needs adding on a couple of faces. The weakest part of the kit is the door which requires some detailing. I have also decided to add a panzerturm to the roof of the bunker, although as the bunker is small the turret must also be. I have bought RPM's panzer 1 turret with interior, that to be honest is a bad kit, very basic and soft detail and plenty of flash. No matter as the majority of emplaced panzer 1 turrets were modified for their use and so it functions well as a 'shell' for such a coversion, i'll explain this in more detail when i've taken some pics.
The GI's i'll be using are Tamiya's good old US assault infantry set, which although some people dislike Tamiya figs, I think is a good set. Have started on them and some minor conversion work is underway to adapt them for my purposes.
Anyway with that seed of interest planted, i'll try and update you with some photos in the near future.
Incidentally some references i'm using may be of use to you:
Neil Short's book 'Tank turret fortifications' is excellent and covers all panzerturms used by the Germans.
The website bunkersite is excellent, as is it's sister site bunkerart
For all those of you going down the bunker route i'd definately recommend them.
Good luck with your builds, some great dio's look to be emerging!
James

Hi all!
Some great builds are appearing here! I've almost finished a diorama - I was making diorama for "white washed" campaign and I've prepared much more "snow" than I needed... so I've used it all on BOTF dio . I've also almost finished two other figures and motorbike.
I hope I'll be able to present finished thing after the weekend.

Sounds good with the diorama, James. I am looking forward to see what you can make from your Mirage set. Maybe I can learn a few tricks from you before I build mine
Great links. I had no idea we had such well preserved bunkers in Denmark. Frederikshavn is definently worth a visit to see some of the quite well preserved defences.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks Jesper, i've taken some pics of my work so far which i'll post soon. After writing that post I have changed back to my original idea of incorporating the mirage bunker onto the RPM Lina Stalina base!
I need a hotchkiss 38 turret for the upper 'turret' (on order) and will use the Pz I turret in the lower position.
Incidentally, some of my reference pics for this modified turret type are from preserved examples in Denmark. If you are interested I have the location of at least one. Drop me a PM if so.
Cheers,
James

As promised here are some pics of my entry so far;
First up is the overall view of what the finished dio should look like, as mentioned I have returned to my original idea of using the Mirage bunker with the RPM base.
Ignore the Russian BT-2 turret, that is the kit part and will be replaced with a French tank turret when the kit arrives.
In order to get the Mirage bunker to fit nicely I will have to remove a portion of the base, basically the raised area in front of this cut here:
As mentioned the figures are from Tamiya, and initial construction can be seen here, they are very good poses for the scene i'm trying to portray. The guy lying down has been converted from a rifleman to a BAR gunner (replacement of pouches and some alteration to arms), the guy on one knee is getting some DML arms transplanted as they give a better sense of action than the Tamiya one's. The NCO peering around the corner is pretty much OOB.
As mentioned the main area needing atention in the Mirage kit is the bunker door, so far I have added hinges (still need rivets) a better handle from wire and 'runners' for the sliding vision slit in the door.
The Pz 1 turret has been heavily modified to represent those modified for use in bunker forifications. The front was replaced with a 3/4" steel sheet with an apeture for an MG-34/42 and a sight. The side veiwing ports were also removed and 3/4" steel plates welded around the openings to allow better ventilation within the turret, aside from this I have removed the RPM 'detail' and added rivets, a periscope etc. This is still a work in progress but almost done:
Thats it so far, hope you like it, all feedback greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
James

No worries mate, I know how it can be, as I do most of my 'trawling' of the site at work!
Also you'll be pleased to know that they now have heads!:

P.S. hotchkiss arrived in the post today so I know have my other panzerturm!

I was a bit dubious the two would go together well, but I think it will work out ok.

Here is a before photo of the Verlinden Productions Heavy Machine Gun Bunker, Kit # 1642, that I am going to build for this campaign.
As you can see in the photo, the main piece was broken when it arrived. I figure it will be easy to repair. So I didn't bother mailing it back as I figured the replacement may have arrived in even worse shape. So I will go with this one.
Anyway I hope to have some in-progress photos soon.
I was finishing up two other campaigns, so I had to wait on getting started on this one. Even with those two campaigns completed, I am still enlisted in three others. I am beginning to think that campaigns are addictive!!
Thanks for looking.

Hey guys
Just found this thread so I guess I will start with a little description with some W.I.P photos later. I decided to make something a little more on the lines of a vignette I suppose. Its based on 1/48 scale with 2 allied infantry crouched behind a wall of a burnt out building taking fire from a German mg crew. haven't really come up with a name yet. I hope to get some pictures up when I get some more progress.
cheers
Ziggy

They are highly addictive. Trust me - I know
The damage to the base plate should be easy to fix. Looking forward to see more of your build as you progress.

I can see by your awards on your profile page that you are a campaign addict as well. Maybe a support group is in order. "Hi, my name is Randy and I am addicted to campaigns".
I did get the base repaired for the bunker. I just used ordinary white glue and it seemed to work fine. There are some small gaps but I figure that I can fill them with putty or cover them up when I apply the ground cover. I hope to have the basic construction and painting done in the next couple of days. I have to decide if I want to add figures and which ones to use if I do. I need to get some scale barbed wire and decide what else to use to give it that "lived in" look. I am thinking of maybe adding a motorcycle or just a bicycle as well. I have a few different ideas as to how to lay everything out. I will just have to decide which idea to go with.

I'm building the tamiya King Tiger from the ardennes front. parked in a little and battered belgian village (foy, noville). is this appropriate for the campaign?

Anirudh, Jesper and Andrzej are right. This campaign gives us quite a bit of latitude for what we build. Welcome aboard, and glad to have you with us!
And to everybody... my apologies (again) for being away from here for so long... I haven't even had time to check in on posts with everything going on around here. And modelling time? Yeah, right... But that's summer for you. If it's not yard-work, it's burying my face in textbooks or working o/t at our store helping with the (major) renovations and additions.
But aside from that, I'll just quickly share a bit of really good news. I just found out I'm going to be a grandpa! My oldest boy's g/f is roughly two months along, but it's a high-risk pregnancy due to medical problems. So we're hoping and praying.
Anyway, more later, hopefully with some modelling updates!

Lewis,
Great news indeed! One month ago my son was born so I realize what happiness a child brings (I don’t know what it is like to be a grandpa, but taking under consideration my parents' happiness it is not so bad too ). Here is my little son:
I believe that everything is going to be OK (I do trust in modern medicine) and soon your family will be one little model-destroyer bigger .
