----MAZ -537G intemediate type with MAZ/ChMZAP-537G semi-trailer----
Having done the review ..now got to put my money where my mouth was...so here it is
Decided as I need some bench time before the intricate work I would start at the back --ie., the trailer

**I have decided to not use the p-e frets unless it is realy necessary **

page 20 onwards........"Gooseneck "..."Mainframe"---Frets-J-K-L


No problems here and a straight forward build....may be advisable to put part L28 (under inner top right side )on first first as its fiddly

*NOTE * they only go1 way ----have an angle on top face


I left the 'spur' on the "PIN" to give it a bit more strength--and eased the slot



The 'pin ' marks I mentioned in the review are not too conspicuous but did give a rub down where they can be picked up..namely on the vertical face inner neck area

Crane and tie-up hooks no problem


Legs are nice and fit smoothly --I did put a little "gunk" into ease and stop binding when painted





Main frame is straight forward --did smooth out some pin-marks with a light rub on a rib



Wheel stations are neat --pins are a 'push fit' ..gave then a touch of 'gunk '-----not fitting wheels and outer rims till later


Front stays are very fine --used pegs to keepclosed as only small 'pip' axles


Ramp parts went together nicely ---*NOTE "square drive "needs eased to go through link -- just a scrape --these are 'push fit' and need no glue




Have a few p-e bits to put on --neck and ramps ...but it is basicly all there


Nice and easy fitting ---started just before lunch and withlots of interuptions for coffee -pipe and food -- at this pont 1700

Giovanni.......some shade of green is base colour --not worked that out yet ----but you can pick up (on-line) pics of variations ....my scratch is 'Parade -state' as Moscow square parade.......my recovery version is winter

Nick......will probably put my IMR-2A on for now --have 2 'scratch' recovery beasties on back bench waiting ...(have a resin (PEC MAZ ) sitting in box at bench waiting to be done after this one )

Ok ...now for todays sojourn ----was at a Show yesterday so nothing done and only a few hours this evening

Not looking at Cab yet ---Jumping to Page 4 --
Chassi ......

As seen lots of little bits --get the tweezers ready ....goes together well ---sloping part B36 needs tobe set in first slot ..then all other bits squeezed into situ --(flex sides )

Drive train.....
Goes together nicely---donno if I missed something --double checked but 1st shaft was short on me --inset a piece of rod



Wishbones ........ These are push -ons .....Make sure you have them the right way up --top ones have a little 'stud'-----and torque rods have a shape at end --fits mounts



*******Would advise leaving parts D42 until stub axles have been done --I broke one
Stub drives ......
They have a bar at one end --this fits in slot on chassi Between wishbones


Fiddly at this point need 3 hands --tried with tweezers but decided this was better


Fitted the inner rims ....eased the inserts --seemed to be a logical approach as I will not put tyres on till later (paint wheels easier)


The "5th Wheel" was nice and fitted well


The rest is straight forward ...no problems



SO FAR --SO GOOD!!....

What armies use this in there tank transports, I know most of the middle east uses it, but what type of military vehicles can be carried and by what countries can I use it for to transport stuff on.Was this used in bosnia at all.

Looks good, Steve. There some issues with the kit, but you seem to handle them well. Even greasing the moving parts.

Cyril .....both models (above show pic) are scratch builds --the Recovery was from pics-----only kit parts are the chassi lower hull , "wishbones and wheels from 2 SCUD ' s that were lying around gathering dust

MAZ --------has had its first undercoat and base coat------drying off........more pics tomorrow

Hi .....................Bad hair-day
Not much done as I had to collect 100's of bits of 2 of my transporters that were trying out for Olympic high dive team ..namely my Commander with Warrior and M1070 Oshkosh with M88 on board...dive was from 2metre -with double twist ---both 'nosed in'----any one good at jigsaws (660 quids worth of scrap )
Ok ---sad story over........Good news ...missed Maz --was in travel box heading for paint shop.
Colour used was Humbrol M30 as base --over shot with Hum M86 and 'SAND'......3-1 mix inner surfaces and final blow over at...3-2 just to high-light the "nooks and crannies"

Not too happy with the 'masks ' for the windows --possibly my ham -fisted approach ...didnt want to fit properly on front --others seemed ok


Lost one on first pass --so used my masking fluid ..other one came loose --not looked yet so we will see.......


First coating..and coat of Klear



Start on toning to-morrow...got tyres in a bath of 'white-glue 'and water to coat before painting
To-morrow is another day

Where does the B-B on it go?

Russia, Ukraine and Hungary for sure. This beast with trailer supplied in the kit can pull up to 50 metric tons of load which accounts to all Soviet/Russian made tanks.

Is there and interior to this beast at all.

"Q" 's......Interior consists of seat -steering wheel and a couple of levers..(gear and brake) with a dashboard (plastic or brass)...no engine ..though there is a post on another site that has a scratch one being done


Tyres ..in bath ---(checking for punctures --gives a better coating for paint to grip --not peal off so easy

Right here we go ........ Yes it did 'bleed ' through the mask --but other was fine with the masking fluid ...must have been oil on fingers stopped it sticking ... ...oops!


Got the old cells to work ..........remedy....toothpaste


........and a few mins later

Dusting started and the 3 decals loaded--1 on each door and stripe on bumper
*( Have a set of decals I have made up -----may replace kit ones at end of build ...just to spark it a bit ..they came from a pic I found ..cut copied and printed )

Did IRAQ get one of theses beast, thinking about putting a Iraq T-72 on the back as a payload.I also might do a MAZ 537 Tank Transporter in Afgan transporting a T-80UD Tank maybe also when the USSR were there.

If the Iraq did would it be safe to say it was sand color.

Couple of points:

1. Enamels might be interfering with the masks...they may be more acrylic friendly, or am I getting your paint preference wrong Steve?

2. To help secure masks, I usually do a quick coat of future around them, to help seal them in and to keep the edges from bleeding.

I know, I know, a comb after your hair is gone, but still...
