Great progress, I hope you're making masters so you cast these babies up? This is like watching the amazing race!
Good luck

Hi Joe
From what I've seen so far You've got the ball going in the right direction and your sensor suite looks well designed and built. So what did you think of that damn fiddley mount for the radar assembly, look at it cross eyed it falls apart. One of the things I noticed about the Trumpiteer LAV25 is the engine deck needs a little reworking such as the lip on the right side has a little over hang to it. Also for the mast you'll need to add the weather guard that is placed over the hatch opening. You can find some good ref pictures:-[ ] from Dan Hay on Prime Portal, since I used his originals when I was working the parts for Maple Leaf.
Hope this helps and keep up the nice work.

Joe:

There are ten really good pictures on Barry Beldams "Armoured Acorn" web-site of a brand new, just issued Coyote belonging to the Royal Canadian Dragoons in Petawawa. They were taken in the fall of 1997, and show just what a "brand new" vehicle looks like. They can be found in the Canadian Vehicle Pics section of his web-site.
Your model is really taking on a life of it's own, and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks Guys

I hope you're making masters so you cast these babies up

I only wish I knew how to cast...besides I'm in a rush getting this one done and I missed some detailed work on them. Maybe next time...you know anyone who casts....

Shane, yeah fiddley parts is about right. I ended up off track a few mm's with the A-frame. I'n a hurry...measure twice, cut once. The satellite dish was a hard piece to make.
Yeah I noticed that with the engine deck, but there’s nothing I could do as I’m on a time frame…also the drivers hatch seems funny, It may not as I really didn’t look into it that much. I have some great pics of the hatch opening of the mast, Prime Portal is where I got them...Thanks!

Thanks Art for the heads-up..."Armoured Acorn"

Yup, the driver's hatch is different....very different from a LAV 25....the Coyote & Bison driver's hatch pivots instead of hinging like on the LAV 25.

Joe
I think your buddy Matt Leese makes molds and casts resin??
I sounds as though Maple Leaf Models will eventually come out with this piece of kit.
I hope you post pictures of your finished project.

Moving along...slowly and hoping to finish by Saturday night. I’ve got most of the hull side built up and now working the rear section and making the fuel tanks. I’m hoping to have this done tonight and the front finished up on Friday night.

Today’s update…first I didn’t get the chance to finish it for today’s “BuffCom 25” show here in Buffalo. I pulled the pin last night around 11pm, even if I pulled an all-nighter. I still had the turret to make up…oh well, next year.

The lower hull if finished except for the running gear and suspensions. I applied a base coat using Tamiyas NATO Green and Field Green mixed 50-50, then later I’ll spray and high light using just NATO Green.

I was asked if I were going to up-armor it, I decided on the next one. So I had to make the hard mounting points on the vehicle, for reference I used Prime Portal’s walk around…man it’s a great site, thanks to Don Busack for his many references.

How do you do the 'end connectors' on your cabling?

They were made using different size Evergreen round rod and Hex-rods followed by strips of tape.

Happy Modeling,
Joe

Fantastic Joe, you really are a craftsman. Now that you are under no time constraints will you do the interior as well? Can't wait to see all the bits together.

Hi Joe
I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but the the cable door on the left rear panel between the two racks is actually just a little thing. Maybe about a foot long and 6 inches across. But other wise everything else looks great.
Sorry had to say something maybe use the info on the next one.

D'yer mean this one, Shane?

Looks pretty close to me, maybe about 1/2 the length of the hull side there.

Nice work, Joe. The only thing that would be nice to see fixed up is the engine deck. The area that the screens are mounted on should be raised up considerably. I know you were under time constaints before, but now...

If you need any specific pics let me know, now that you have some time.

I don't know Jim the length on Joe's cable hatch just seems a little to long. Maybe it's the picture I just looked at , I just seem to remember making mine a little smaller but that was a while back now and JP has the parts now scatching my head. Either way it's a little late to say anything now right.

Yeah it’s off here and there, I should have thought it through before taking on this project. I was rushing on this to finish it up in 10 days…yeah right The cable access opening I have in 1/35 scale is 9” x 12”…what is wrong is the squared opening on the to of the oval opening….not found on the real vehicle. I wanted to build up the engine deck but that would have taken up a few hours that I didn’t have, do now but doubt if I’ll do it on the one. Now that I’m in no hurry I able to add on those pencil rod tie-downs along the hull. Gary (White4) posted a great way in making them using a jig and thin wire.

Another thing I noticed was the different setups on the hull sides, what I mean is the many different brackets, mounts and braces. I’ve found pics on the net from the sites some of you pointed out to me, pics you shared and Prime Portal. Sort of messes you up…I had to keep reminding myself to which vehicle I was doing.

Jay where did you get the resin deck from…nice piece.

Anyhow many thanks for the help and heads-up to the changes. I made notes to my drawing for the corrections.

Oh while I have you quick question. What barrel would be best, I was told I could use the one from a Tamiya M2 Brad kit…any thoughts.

Happy Modeling,
Joe

A fluted 25 mm barrel....Barrel Depot makes the best one in metal.

Lucky Model has the best price.
