Nice looking figure, Marcin. MB comes really handy when you need something else from pointing officer .
BTW: what paints you usually use?

Yes, they have very interesting range of figures, unfortunately quality is a bit disapointing (especially gear) but faces look very good.
I use mainly Vallejo Color acrylics. This figure was painted with German Uniform (for jacket) and German Field grey (traurers). I also use Tamiya acrylics (mainly for vehicles) and Testors (currently switching from enamels to acrylics). I also have few jars of Life Color but haven't tested them yet.

Hi, little update.
Here is the layout of the dio - commander saying ferwell to his tank.
Did some ground work. Next thing that needs work is the tree.

Cool idea Casper.

I've been too busy lately to model, but hoping I'll get a day before the end of the month to push this to the finish. The farm house and tanks will be a lot more burned / rusty

@ Ron – don’t worry, I know exactly what I wish for – we’ve thought the first one was going to be a girl, we even had a name chosen . When we’ve learned that it is going to be a boy we had really hard time choosing the name for him .

@ Marcin – I’m still considering switching to acrylics… Humbrol’s quality is not the highest one and they are consequently lowering range of available colors… maybe it is time for a change…

@ Kaspar – man, you’re fast! . Very nice, small diorama – I do like composition and that little fence is doing a great job!

@ Greg – looking good so far, your diorama will be quite crowded. One question: what this pole is going to be? A shadoof?

Vallejo has huge range of colours, Lifecolor too, with some interesting sets.
Of course you will have to get use to using acrylics but it's not dificult especially when you have mighty Internet and all those tutorials and friends from Armorama
Currently I use enamels leftovers very rarely and only because I hate waisting things.

Marcin,

Well done!

As for me, I've done as much as I can for now, so time to post it up. I still want to stain the wooden frame, and I need to replace the broken antenna on the Jeep (I figured it wouldn't last long...), but that'll wait til I get rid of this cast. I'm not entirely happy with the transition from exposed cobbles to overlying dirt either, but am not sure how to make it more convincing. (I'd have done it all as cobbles but that's not what the photos said of the real thing...) I put the first pic in the Campaign gallery for the ribbon, and the rest on Photobucket to save my gallery limit. Hope you like 'em!

For those of you in the UK I intend to have it at the MAFVA Nationals at Duxford in June, and our own Essex MAFVA show in August, so do drop by for a chat.

@Marcin – very nice little diorama – it’s very powerful. I’ve written it before but I do need to write it again: soil on the grave is perfect!

@Tom – Panther looks great and so does the Jeep. I really like the composition of whole scene. How went plaster cobblestones and trolley tracks carving? They look really good.

As for my progress – I’ve poured plaster (which has to dry for few days now so I’m stuck with river making…), planted some bushes, grass etc… While waiting for plaster to dry I’m going to paint the ground and vegetation above the water level.

Andrzej,

Thanks! The cobbles were strangely theraputic to carve - perhaps I should market them as executive stress-relief! I realised the photos showed a lot of dirt covering them, with the cobbles only showing through where the traffic went past the tank, so I didn't need to do the whole base in the end, but the dirt was actually more difficult to finish than the cobbles. The only regret is the real scene had no near-by vertical component that I could model...

Your river is looking good - can't wait to see it painted up!

Looks like we are entering the last phase doesn't it? Some amazing progress folks. I am duly humbled.

I am not sure what the experts are going to think of my technique, but I have been having fun this week. I didn't have a lot of room on my camara as I have also been working on projects for two other campaigns (MiniArt, Pacific) and will be making updates on those here in a bit also.

But I did promise I would make furious progress on the roof during the last week (the last Sunday to be precise) of the campaign and I have been doing that. I still need to fashion the tile roofing material (today's project) but I have made more progress than these two pics show. Also, I have been steadily gluing and placing more elements, as well as a feeble attempt at snow, accumulated rain, and weathering experiments.

Comments are welcome obviously, however I must say that my focus is finishing a semi decent piece as opposed to perfection (*that being said I don't know how I am going to refrain from adding more accessories over time....).

here we go...once I make good progress finishing the roofing I will begin placing figures and final accessories. Yippee, this has been really fun and a great learning experience. Thanks to everyone.

IMAG0028

IMAG0027

Thanks for looking. I will have some more updates here in a bit...

Nice one, Marcin! Small, simple, yet effective!

Absolutely awsome, Tom!!
What a great piece of work!!

Going good, Andrzej!
It will be a great looking scene once finished. I especially like to see the river!

Your building is coming together nicely, Billy. I would lose the cork on the roof though.

As for me..... I dragged myself to the workingbench today, to finally get something done!!
And here's the endresult; 2 more figgies completed!!

5 more days, 4 more figures and some final touch-ups.... I AM going to make it!!

Billy,

I like it! The building & its surroundings really shout "central Europe". What will the roof coverings be when finished? And was that the Miniart Bantam Jeep? I've got one in my stash, begging to be built...

Ron, how do you find time for such great figures? I wish my painting was anywhere near as good. Can't wait to see the whole dio...

Hi Tom, believe it or not, but these 2 were done in a 3 hour-session.
They were basecoated when I started, though.

Because I did get started I wanted to do some more work today.
Main focus would be the finishing of the base with it's details.
I overpainted the blue sides in a semigloss black and did the cut off edges in black, too.
The black, Tamiya's X-1 looks very hard, because of the flash.

I used Mig washes for the first time today and although I was sceptical at first, I must admit they did a wonderfull job on the texture and depth of both the railwaybedding and the upper section. Look at the pictures with the helmet and the grass.

As for the details, I added some ammobixes to the 251's interior, so it has a bit more to offer. I made the classical mistake of not glosspainting those boxes befor applying the decals. Fortunately it is not very much visible.

The German gear left behind;

The grass by Fredericus Rex to break the outline of the base and to add life and colour;

The painted figures in place;

@Billy – lovely mess you have there… I’ve always admired people that were able to show messed up things on their dioramas – for me it’s really difficult to create chaos purposely.

@ Ron – your diorama is looking great (but I’ve already told you that ). Figures are fantastic and you’ve placed them on diorama in really convincing places. Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t they old Tamiya’s T34 riders?

@Kaspar – you’ve given your diorama a great title. I do like the whole thing and alive and free (so far) the soldier on your diorama is he sure has great feeling of loss… It seems he really liked his “horse”.
Answering your question – you’ve done all you had to complete this campaign. You will receive your ribbon before next week ends.

As for my progress: I’ve applied the water and now I’m waiting for the transparent look. It is white and not convincing at all at the moment. I’ve also placed figures, painted vegetation and improved some small details. I still have some work to do but I’m almost done. Here is how it looks in the moment:

@Peter – very nice diorama! On the one hand it sure is “Homecoming” but on the other there is absolutely no joy in it… I really like it. You’ve done good job with the rubble and diorama’s layout. It’s a contest winner for sure.

@ Ron – it’s not “Bitter taste of defeat”, it’s “Sweet taste of moving forward, winning and capturing whole train packed with tanks, halftracks, and other goodies” . Great diorama, my friend!

Huston, I have a problem!...
My still water is still alright but most of it is still white and not transparent… It turns transparent but very slowly and it won’t receive its proper look sooner than within a week or so…

Andrzej,

How bad is it? It might just be the river is a little frothy now with extra volume from a spring thaw upstream, but will settle down later. (At least that would be my story if asked!) Of course, you're the one with the power to award the ribbons...

Tom, my story is: here are four soldiers walking next to a Panther tank sunken in a river of milk…
I put quite deep layer so it’s understandable that it takes time to dry completely but I did not think it would dry that long…
Of course I have a power to give the award and it’s not the point – diorama is finished, it’s just fu#king lazy and does not want to cooperate. I’ve finished it before the campaign end… It’s just that I wanted to show you the final look of it and it seems it will not be possible in the moment. Tomorrow I will post pictures showing its up-to-date look though… and I sure will give myself a ribbon because I can .

Andrzej,

I suppose the honourable thing to do would be to add a photo to the gallery in a few weeks when it has cured! Still, it is pretty cool-looking even now.

You can count on that, Tom! I just regret I didn't star earlier and applied the "water" in thinner layers... it would probably dry faster that way.
