Is it the Tamiya one? I will be starting mine soon - I've got the one with the limber and field gun. I've got photo etch sets and a couple of figures to go with it too.

Yes, It's the Tamiya offering. But I did not get the "Comb." kit with both the Quad and the Field gun. No PE's on either kit, striaght OOB builds. Two kits, two builds.

Sorry mate, Got home late yesterday. Uploaded to Photobucket and that was it.

Started mine a couple of days ago. Have the chassis finished and sprayed in flat black primer. This may turn into a group build.

Note: Watch it with the leaf springs. On the kit I have the sprues were too close to the part and I had to butcher the sprue to remove them. I bent one trying to remove it and almost lost it.

Thx for the pix's, photo two is interesting in that it's been modified in front, different from top photo.
Top photo has the note in German for the side slot were photo two doesn't show the side slot. Different body type?? Strange..... . I've noted the windows also in photo two.

Wait until you see my mod...

SMALL UPDATE:

In last post I showed some photo's of the front with Motor, Dry fitted. (See last photo.) Just a build note for part C20.
There is a cable thru for the winch on the front bumper, this needs to be opened up, if you've not already done it.

Xacto knife wouldn't cut it, too thick. Dremel tool is only way to clean this out. See photo below.

A little post update.
I'm researching the "Mickey Mouse" paint patten and colors for the build, That's why no update photo's.
I like to see if I can pull off the "Mickey Mouse." patten, personal challenge, since I've hand painted 90% of my builds so far. Going to match patten on the 25pdr. gun sheild also.
Should be interesting.

For the Mickey Mouse camo, you could make the shape out of masking tape and then spray paint the black areas. (Cut out the MM pattern out of the tamiya wide masking - the spray should leave no brush marks). Just a thought.

Great progress by the way, i myself have built this kit, but i painted it plain green instead of the MM camo. It was one of early builds and wasnt very good - Overboard with the scratches(woops) and dust.

Thx for the thought. I never did to well with spary cans, I have an air brush, but no compressor. (It's on my tax refund list of things to buy. )

The base color for "yellow sand" is the problem right now for a match. I might switch gears and do a Mickey Mouse green camo just for the heck of it. Something different.
We'll see.

Your build motivated me to buy two copies of the old Peerless Chevy gun tractor at a show last weekend. If I come up with anything pertinent to your gun tractor while doing research, I'll pass it along.

With regards to the Mickey Mouse camo, you could try using a circle temple to draw guidelines and then paint the circles by hand.

Thx for the reply. I'm looking for photo of the fuel tanks, and the fillers, placement of the fillers mainly.
I've not seen any clear photo's of were these are on the Quad.
I.E., Inside the doors somewhere on the floor or outside the Quad?
I bought some solid tube to use for the filler tubes.
Just an added detail that seems to have be overlooked in other builds I've noticed.
As far as the paint goes, I'm going to run test strips on the MM and see what looks the best.

Just found this site with information on restored CMP vehicles in Australia. The vehicles are apparently modified and not totally correct for British trucks.:

Inside I found this restored Ford CMP No.12 cab FAT which I believe matches the Tamiya kit:

It appears that CMP No.12 and CMP No.13 cabs BOTH appeared on Chevy and Ford FATs. This means one cannot make a definitive ID based on the cab alone. Further, I am not sure at this point if the interior went with the cab, with the chassis, or neither.

Here are pictures of a Ford #8 showing the fuel tanks and fill positions. The chassis details seem to remain the same from variant to variant. Still looking.

According to my research so far, the cab style (No.12 vs No.13) gives no indication of chassis manufacturer. I am still not sure how Morris fits into all this. Rumors exist that SKP will release a Morris FAT in the near future. The grill, crash guard, and a few other items indicate the make of the chassis (Ford vs Chevy). I now believe the interior went with the cab, so any No.12 cab vehicle (Chevy or Ford) should provide the information you need. The No.13 cab entered production after the No.12 cab. Thus, No.12 cab vehicles tended to see action in Africa while No.13 cab vehicles tended to see action in Europe. However, both cab styles appeared in both theaters and many of all types survived the war.
