Mike,

Thanks for your words.

Your model looks great too!, in the past I have the Tamiya one, but I sell it, as I don't like to do the zim. So, when Dragon come to rescue, I buy it!.
I "envy" your tracks!, here in the far south, kits and aftermarket are very expensive, so this kind of details aren't possible. We have 60% tax over price + shipping, so imagine....

Please, post your progress!. I was a bit slow as in sept. 26/27 we have our "Nationals", and I finish a base for my T-34, anyway, this week end I planning to add the wires, etc.

Alvaro,

With your permission, I'll post an occasional update to what I'm doing and what others are suggesting. I certainly don't want to hijack the thread, as what you've got going is really good and I'll be closely following it. By the way...the Friul's came in a trade...so....I didn't drop the $$ normally expected.

There are at least four things that have originated from you post that I'll incorporate into my build...so, I'm here to watch, "listen," and learn.

Personally, I'd like to see you guys do the thread sharing thing. I have Tigers in the stash and several Tiger builds on Armorama have provided a WEALTH of information about building them. This is a golden opportunity for another such great build. With contributions made by Spit, Herbert, Marco, yrq_ekb, and the other experts on Armorama I'm sure will come along, I'm sure this will be another stellar build! It will be a reference for so many things from historical accuracy to "how tos" and everything in between! It will be another keeper absolutely worth saving! Please consider it!

alvaro if buying from foreign online shops isnt possible, try ebay, but of course that comes with its burdens. try the Buy sell or trade forum here, it will sure give you a more reasonable price to pay. both of the tigers looks great. mike great job in the tracks, ive seen how people assemble them and they look very tedious looks like it took alot of work. alvaro i like how you've paid attention to the little details.

Mike, Post here when you want, all are welcome.

Jim, I share your comment, to me the forums are the perfect way to share tips, tech and tricks to improve our modelling skills and models.

Calvin, the problem here its that all the packages pass trough customs, and they "need" to extend a bill. The 60% tax applies to all packages or mail if the guy think that you're importing something. Only books, Dvd and Cd's aren't tax.

Thanks for your words guys

Hi Mike,

I agree with you, few pics. I choose the white scheme, as I found the one with stripes a bit "dark" Black 332 (few yellow), and the kit instructions "White 13" overall yellow, a bit "clean".
BTW, some decal marker - Byson I don't remember show the overall yellow W 13 with more "common" camo, of 3 colors.

I like the overall white, and I don't have any tank in this scheme (I only have 3 on my collection!), so I think that the zim can "catch" a lot of hues and colors, with the overall white color. Also have some different features, like the jerrycan at the back, and if I don't wrong, was the last Porsche in service.

Saddly, as I post early, the tracks will be the kit ones...

Q: The "Butterfly" nuts go in uuper or down position?

If I'm not mistaken, the "butterfly" portion of the nut/bolt should be in the UP position (when it is latched/closed).

PE is "fun," isn't it?!?

Update.....

I fix with Faber Castell version of "blue Tak" the track to the box top. So, you can handle it and use any angle to paint them

I choose a dark brown (African Maroon) of an Argentinian acrylic brand "Monitor"

All the hatches handles are in place

The easy and friendly clamps.....

I watched a few model builds on YouTube done by Japanese builders and all in Japanese. I noticed that several used Sunshine Yellow as a preshading color on the hull surfaces of German armor. I saw this done with both Tigers and Sd Kfz 251s. They did a reverse application where instead of spraying the edges and corners with the pre-shade color, typically something dark, those areas were left either in primer or the natural plastic color and all the surfaces away from the edges were oversprayed with the bright yellow. The Dunkelgelb base color was then applied over it along with any camo colors. Some used Tamiya paints and I believe another builder used Mr. Color paint, but still did the Sunshine Yellow preshade. It came to mind when you showed the commercial black preshading you did on the road wheels. Have you ever seen or used this technique with a bright yellow undercoat?

Hi Jim,

No, I not know about a preshading coat with a bright yellow . I use the black undercoat as I "come" from airplanes, and its the tech that I use for preshading.
Thanks for the data, I will check some videos to see how to.

Another step, now fixing the tools and wires.

Opening holes

Check. I trim a bit the plastic for better fit.

Those need a better ad hoc treatment

Fit

Front tools

Hi, I'm new here and I'm making this kit too - following your progress avidly and picking up some great hints - thank's for that!

One thing I noticed - and I could be way out of line here but in contemporary photo's of the Porsche turret examples the gun has a kind of collar around the end of the barrel's first section. You can see a groove a couple of inches or so from the end of the wider bit of the barrel coming from the mantlet. Have you added this part as it's in the box but not mentioned in the instructions? I think it's part H7. It seems to fit over the wider part of the aluminium barrel that protrudes from the plastic part. I don't see any photo's of a short 'step down' that you get if you leave this part off, if you see what I mean?

What do you think? I could be totally wrong here but it's what I see in the photographs.

Thank's again for the hints and the inspiration!

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi, Mike. Thanks for your words.

Well, I don't add this part, when I come home again, I will check the pics and instructions. Thanks for the advice, maybe I "pass over" this piece.

This week end we have heavy rains (In Uruguay), so no paint or modelling task was done....

Hi Alvaro,

Yes, check it out, look at some period photographs and see what you think. I think it's the seal housing for the mantlet and should have a screw hole added. If you decide to fit it you may have trouble if you've already glued the gun assembly together.

I've seen another person's assembly with this part left off, but as I say, it gets no mention in the instructions?

Cheers,

mike.

Mike, I check the instructions and as you said, nothing about H7

So, I check my references and add the piece, as I don't glue the barrel

I don't glue the piece, so if new references appears, I can go back.......

Thanks again Mike, and show your Porsche
