Just getting another "T-72 playmate" off the bench

Once I weather this one, I'll be into the T's Miniarm Turret

George what did you use (adhesive wise) to assemble the barrel ?

It is a right royal pain to assemble and very gimicky IMO.

Did you solder the straps etc ?

I'm thinking of ditching it and using the Modelpoint barrel I have

Sorry to be a pain, but can you post a couple of close up shots of the straps etc please ?

Cheers

It looks like a great project,

Just to add a detail, be sure that you have the rubber hosing for the cylindrical fuel tanks rigged in the USSR/ Russian manner instead of the Polish/ Czech manner.

Thanks Marc...

Are the kit instructions correct (Tamiya) ?

Theres only one way shown in the Tamiya instructions for rigging the hose to and from the fuel drums. I just followed that as it didn't specify if it was country specific. Usually all other elements of the kit that are nation specific are clearly marked and given as numerous options.

Thanks Jon, yeah I know about the kit instructions. I'm a little worried that they may be incorrect now considering Marc's comment above

I also see George has used PE on his drums and they are not flat on the 'base' as provided in the kit.

Hopefully I can sort this barrel out in the next couple of days, I think I'll use "Gator glue"

Cheers

Paul.

As for the PE eh maybe... but even if thats the case its such a small detail. Plus even if we rigged it wrong I wouldn't lose any sleep over it myself.

I've been following this diagram though for my T-90, which seems the same as the Tamiya layout

I remember a thread on Missing Links modern forum from long ago, it might be worth to have a look.

These pics show a soviet vehicle:
http://otvaga2004.narod.ru/otvaga2004/0news/kursant_tank.htm

However this T-72 BM shows another variant.
http://otvaga2004.narod.ru/xlopotov_8/tank_t72ba_04.htm

It appears the soviet arrangment changed somewhere down the line.

I won't be home until late Saturday, if there is going to be another flight delay I'll make a solidworks assembly guide instead of photographing the barrel. I used slow curing CA adhesive to glue PE bits in place. BTW, the ring indents on the fuel drums are not PE, they were made with 0.8mm copper wire and edges filleted with Mr. Dissolved putty.

Thanks George !

I'll leave the barrel for the weekend and do the rest - have a safe and enjoyable flight !

I will probably start on my JagdPanzer Kanone while I stew on this Barrel too

Hopefully I'll be ready for paint in a the next couple of days

Well the carpet monster solved the issue with the PE on the RB Barrel supplied

Two of the PE bits have gone missing for the top of the barrel

Soooooo............... I've fitted the modelpoint barrel instead. It looks Ok, thickness wise it is the same. The barrel segments are slightly different lengthwise. But it'll be fine.

I've just got one Resin piece to fit for the main search light, and the wire tie downs on the turret need to be fitted.

Cool Dimitry, that'll be fun to watch !

You can then do a T-64B less applique armor (SP Designs & Miniarm) and a T-72BM (Miniarm) once I get into mine !

Hi Paul
Good to see this come along.

Don't worry about the PE, on my T-90 I just used left over bits of Etch sprue to make the PE parts. Should be easy enough to replace any bits you've lost.

Cheers Jon !

I'll use that "RB" barrel on another project (I have a SP designs T-80U to do).

I'm ready for priming now - I just need a little touch up with Mr Surfacer on some joins and I'll be "shooting it" !

I'll try the resin primer I got that we've discussed (first time) but I'll practice the mix etc on an old CD case.

Cheers

I found an article in an old Osprey guide that said they used the Mr Resin mixed the the consistency of milk through an airbrush. So that should be fine.

I guess the best way as you say is to practice on a few scraps till you get a mix ratio you are happy with. I've never used the jar format myself, only the aerosol.

Sorry I couldnt be more help on that front!

That's fine Jon, I'll mix with Lacquer thinner and test it out on some scrap material as you suggest.

This should be fun.

As far as paint goes, I plan on:

1. Priming .

2. Preshading with Semi Gloss Black (Tamiya) - I'll probably cover the whole thing with this...

3. Base coat of XF-13 (Tamiya J,A Green)

4. Highlight of XF-67 75 % and XF-4 25 % (Nato Green and Yellow Green).

This worked well on the DDR T-72 I posted images of earlier in this thread.

I may play with the highlight and make them less dramatic though

Cheers

Have I missed anything ?

Tow cables, fuel drum piping, unditching log, AA gun to come after paint .
