A bit of weathering done to the hull .... not really happy with it atm.

Next will be some pigments, oil stains, and soot on the exhaust.

Paul,

Not happy? This looks awesome at the moment. If you think it needs more refinement then I cant wait to see what that looks like.

Hi Sean,

more work to be done. More layering and colors to get the dust / dirt looking more realistic.

It's getting there though.

More pics in the next day or so.. I just bought a new lighting setup, and a new Canon G10

I just need to get a tripod I guess - I think the Camera will be here next week. Hopefully the photos will be MUCH better !!

A little more work done, almost there.

Then the figs

I think everything on this one, including the weathering, looks great. All in all, this has been a fun - and informative - build to watch.

As for the crew, I say go with the flag.

Thanks YL, I'm pretty much there I just need to add the Crew.

I may adjust the dirt a little.

Here are a couple of pics - I'm all excited by my new G10 Camera, but I haven't read the instructions and the pics are rubbish.

I'll go to bed and read them and get some better ones soon (after playing some more ).

Looking good Paul! I'm excited to see the crew. Personally I think the weathering looks great, but I know what you mean. When I did the mud on my T-90 wheels I just wasn't happy with the colour and I did loads of washes and pigment stains to change it. In the end my wife told me she thought it looked fine. Sometimes you just need a fresh set of eyes to pry yourself out of your own paranoia!

On a side note I got the OSprey T-62 book last week and there are some photos in their of Soviet Tanks in the field with the Guard honorific on the search light.

Thanks Jon !

I'm struggling with the lighting and the colors in the pics but here is my latest attempt. The contrast is quite a way off between the greens etc.

I have a new lighting setup I'm trying and I'm playing with the White Balance in the G10. I really need a Tripod to get the best results - I've bought one and it is on the way

Edit: replaced the Blue pics with some with better White balance but the color balance of the pics above is still pretty poor

Hopefully I'll post crew pics tomorrow ...

More pics...

The colors aren't quite right - the uniforms look very blue - they are darker in the hand (the pics have skewed the uniforms towards blue) ....

The browns on the fenders and front look browner in the pics too...

No flag......

The Commander is gesturing ......................................"What the .... ??"

The way I see it, the Tank has been through a wet patch of earth and muddied up a little, then it has got on to a dusty gravel road and put dust on the tracks and wheels.. Hopefully it looks reasonably convincing.

I've tried some more camera settings and changed the White Balance again....

I may try some other settings later

Comments and feedback on the build and pics will be much appreciated...

I need to get that JagdPanzer Kanone built for the Tank Killer Campaign

Cheers

It looks very good. Just from pictures, things look fine. The bluer look of th euni's make them look faded, so no problem there.

Thanks Jacques,

for my second foray into Soviet style armor I'm happy with the result - the next one will be better.

I have the JagdPanzer Kanone to do (T-72A Playmate ), a Canadian C2 Mexas, and then "The Beast" from the movie of the same name :

The Beast

My next Soviet machine will be the T-64B with the SP Designs Hull and the MiniArm Turret.

Too may projects / thoughts and too little time !!

Cheers

Paul

Thanks for the kind words Tom,

I'm loving your T-72 while we're at it !

The JP Kanone wil be a ripper - I have the Perfect MB AM bits and will be posting progress shots in the Tank Killer Campaign thread in near future. I can imagine that baby hunting my T-72A ---> the JP-K hidden in the cover of a clump of trees at the edge of a forest, with the T-72A rolling on with its battalion across an open field.... BANG !!

You imagine the outcome..... 90mm vs the T-72 armor ? Mmmmmmm......... not sure...

I'm not 100 % happy with the tones and the coloring on the T-72A, but I've learnt a little more which will be applied to the next few projects

I'm looking forward to seeing the paint on your T-72 Tom.....

Cheers

I can forgive the missing flag, since the figures turned out so nice on their own!

I'll agree with Jacques in that color makes the uniforms look faded. Nice work overall.

Hey there YL !

This T-72 was more experience in doing OD / Green machines. I'll reduce the darker Mig pigments on the hull next time and use more of the Oil dot method on the upper hull I think, lighter colors, more layering on the turret etc.

The skirts are basically 100 % oils with a little darker Mig pigment at the very edge for a bit of a muddy look.

Cheers
