Whatever happens when they are finished.....if the 2A4+s are to be used to rotate into Afghanistan and replace or augment the 2A6Ms......

If the 2A4+ are ready to deploy on ATHENA before 2011, then I'll eat a bug.

Wonder what will become of the C2? Would be neat to see a Moe Regt get them, but we know that will never happen.

I agree....pipe dream to get them modified, updated, and deployed.

The C2....I suspect gate guards, museum pieces, and the rest sadly scrapped......they are a rare breed as it is over there now...and even fewer after it is done with KMW stopping spare part production. It is not a tank crew issue....it is budget and the logistics of having tanks.

I think it is great the Reserves are getting combat tank time on the C2 and 2A6M....but they won't get their own tanks.

There will be no Leo 2A4+ going to the sandbox from the Project Manager's office. By the time they are fitted out with all of the upgrades the Panzers should be pulled outta the sandbox. It would take nothing but a very large miracle to get them there after sitting outside un tarped at the depot in Montreal.........what a shame, full of water and sludge............

I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow but the Armour School now has 4 Leo 2A4's over in their lines for training. No major Mod's, painted dark green with a black maple leaf on each side of the turret.

As for Moe tanks, I do't think you culd find anyone in the methat would want them. I can see them being used for a short time at CMTC for OPFOR until the parts run out.

I would like to see those pics. Are the Leos out and about?

All the Leopard user states have made storage mods to thier Leos. I would think the Can. 2A4s will have something modified down the road. The 2A6 has a good amount more space then the 2A4.

Never thought of an OPFOR role. Though the way CMTC plays, I wouldn't be surprised if they got the 'new' Leo's before the RCAC.

I am sure that CMTC will be the next group to get the Leo 2's after the School.

I would also think with that fancy hanger that was built for the C2's and that they still have the tech support required, they will want to keep 8-10 of them for OPFOR. They are always talking about providing realistic enemy forces on exercises and this would probably be one way of doing it.

The Hanger at CMTC that the ole C-2`s were stored at, has a major flaw when it comes to the new Leo`s. The hanger doors are too small.......We were just able to get teh C-2`s outta there with a few inch`s to spare. Now seeing that the new Leo`s are wider this will cause a problem, might have to mod the hanger to fit the new Leo`s and crews in.

Cheers

There are going to have to be a lot of changes for the Leo 2's. I know all the bridges and culverts that were just redone out in Gagetown are good to 50t's. Unless they re-do them, the Leo 2's will be quite restricted.

I guess things changed at the Project Manager's office.....no surprises there.

So, do you have a favorite kind of tasty bug?

Naturally I was referring to the NL 2A4 still sitting at 202 Wksp. This line:

upgrades to 20 of the Leopard 2 A4 tanks acquired from the Netherlands, still located in a climate-controlled facility in the Netherlands...From Germany, the 20 tanks will be deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.

is a new development in the fielding of 2A4 to the gan, and I feel my bug eating stance should not apply.

VERY curious to see what they will look like when deployed. Then again, I have read similar DND backgrounders still on the DND website that say we are getting MMEV:

Haha...good one. Bug eating semantics!

That would be a good rumour to start though.....that the MMEV is back on line and heading to Afghanistan along with the LAV III TUA.

Ah, the direct fire regiment. A lot of people seemed to have forgiven (or forgotten) the then Army Comd LGen Hillier and his "your either with me or against me" speech when he was selling MGS and MMEV as the future of army transformation.

I remember studying the DFS on AOC, and even the directing staff were having a hard time selling it to us students! Thank god that thing went away; some high ranking generals really risked a lot going against the LFC Comd and the MND to keep the idea of tanks in Canada alive.

I know what you mean.

I remember Gen Fox, Ret'd (who was the Col Cmdt for the Armd Corps at the time) try to sell us on the idea of the new wheeled gun system the goverment was looking at buying during the school grad mess dinner.

Needless to say, a room full of tipsy tankers were not impressed.

I think Hillier had no choice but to go with it. I remember hearing Gen Jefferies talk about it as well, but he also added the get rid of pioneers, mortars etc.....

Ya, but it will be re-gunned with the old L23A1 76 mm salvaged from the Cougar turrets.

Are you sure? I thought it was going to be a potato gun on a John Deere Gator
