Hi Guys,
Here is the progress so far, it's an OOB build, an I know this kit has its faults. That and my faults as well. But I got rid of that nasty seam
I know the color is very green but hopefully after the washes it will dull it a bit. Added the tools as well
But other than that things are going smoothly.

I just stumbled across this campaign yesterday, and since I'm not one to pass up a perfectly good excuse to build another Sherman variant, I've decided to jump on board. I plan on finally building an old Italeri M7 Priest kit that I've had in my stash for a while. I've collected enough spare parts and aftermarket bits to have a go at backdating the kit from a late model M7 to an earlier version as seen on Sicily in 1943.

Richard, I have a perfectly good Dragon M4A2 Late PTO kit lying around and some USMC PE on order.
#1 Can I join?
#2 Can you, or anyone, advise me if this is a good kit to represent the 4th or 5th Marine Tank Battalions on Iwo Jima?
Regardless I'll be building it as a Marine variant with wooden side armor. I'm thinking basswood.

Welcome Ed,
the M7 will be a great addition to this Campaign.
@ Sal - good progress, very fast build so far
@ WEGray = of course you can join, you are most welcome !! There are many experts here that know more about that kti and the Marine M4A2's at Iwo Jima, so I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction with that question
Cheers
Paul

Hey Richard Yeah, I know it will be a lot of work, but I've had the idea to do that conversion bouncing around in my tiny little mind since before the Academy kit came out, never mind the Dragon announcement. Besides, I have the kits and parts I'll need at hand, and it's been a while since I really pushed myself with a vehicle build, so I'm ready to plow on ahead.

@ Jeff - that resin Roller set will be really interesting to see on that M4 ....
Whicn resin kit is it ?
Verlinden Paul.
Old but the only dog on the market actually not to bad if you get all the roller parts sanded up good.
Dragon needs to do one in plastic that would be killer and a lot of time saved I bet.
Soon I will start it.
cheers

I hope Sal that you take this as a compliment but that color is a bit off really.
Looks way to light almost like sap green.Tamiya FX -62 my man.
From an Ex New Yorker.
Fast build there also.
Any base work for this thing?
My brother was an ex New York cop 10 years he did then quit used to kick himself for quitting but had enough.
A long time ago early 70's to 81 I think.
Enjoy that build.

Hi Guys,
@ Paul I'm recovering from ankle surgery so I have a make shift workbench in the kitchen that I sit at all day can't leave the house except for Dr. and Therapy visits so I have plenty of time to build.
@ Jeff yeah the color was my first attempt at using an air brush that I got as a birthday gift. I used a mixture of Badger Airbrush paint of Green, brown, yellow and a drop of white. Turned out a little to dark green but hopefully the washes will help. I'm up to 23 years in some of worst neighborhoods in the city. Gonna pack it all in when the leg is better
Well here is some progress was working late into the night
Gonna add a brown wash to hopefully tone down the green.

Hi AgentG ..I went snooping around and found some good news and some bad news for you ...The 4th and 5th Marine Battalion had brand new M4A3's while the 3rd MB had midproduction M4A2's ..If you want a great book on Iwo Tank warfare you should pick up the Squadron /Signal book call Tank Warfare on Iwo Jima written by David E. Harper.. It was thought for a long time that the 4th and 5th used late M4A2`s so much so that Dragon got it wrong ...If you want to do an M4A2 you`ll need the Tarawa kit and Bison Decal... (I wouldn't trust that camo scheme on the number 8 tank) but if you want to use your kit ,The late M4A2 was used on Pelilieu with the 1st Marines Battalion..Check same decal sheet ...

I was afraid of that. The M4A3 really really looks like my M4A2 late.
Ok Pelielu and the bison sheet it is!

See how it goes after the wash Sal, you way also need some pigments to help take that Very Green 'tinge' away.

Hi Sal...I think the weathering will help alot..I'm sure a few brown washes should help ..maybe a filter of a mix of black and yellow ochre might do the trick..Keep on posting !!

Hi Guys,
Here is some yesterdays progress before the parting started added some weathering and some of the cargo
Have it all tied down still need to add some more stuff to the front maybe some more ammo cans to the rear. Then I'll do a brown wash and try Richards suggestion of black and yellow filter.

Good morning gentlemen, count me in! I'll be doing the Dragon 1/35 M4 Sherman "Composite Hull" PTO for this build. I haven't decided which set of markings to use... still doing my research.

@ Scott - welcome mate. The Composite will be interesting, looking forward to seeing you progress through this one. Will it be OOTB ?
@ Michael A - TINY comes to mind
@ Sal - I think Richards suggestion will be the way to go. The tracks will need some dust / mud too.
Cheers
