I'll jump in with the 1/48 Hobby Boss Tiger face Sherman (I think I have all the parts to build it still - some were borrowed for another project).

Anyone know any good Korean war films?

I've seen "71: into the fire" and "Tae Guk GI" both with really well made special effects and equipment.

Martin, I'm not sure about your build. As I remember it was quite far along and the idea of campaigns is to build it from A-Z (with few exceptions, like only a few parts started) within the time frame. We also have the requirement of posting pre-build pics to make sure people don't cheat (aparently there were some bad experiences on the site...). Sorry! You are certainly welcome to post progress and of course to start another project.

Greg, don't know of any other great Korean War movies except for Tae Guk Gi. That one certainly is great though.

Cheers!

Hmm, the only Korean War movie I could think of was "The Bridges at Toko Ri"

Never saw Pork Chop Hill...............

M.A.S.H. is easy to forget as a Korean War movie. Loved both, but the anti-war, anti-authority messages outshone the Korea story.

True enough. OTOH, When I actually went to Korea, I was amazed at how much it looked like the TV M.A.S.H.

Lol, how funny is that?
Where did you go in Korea, if you don't mind me asking?

Greg: Sweet! I'm going to be building one of those too! I was thinking of going with the full tiger applique markings, which markings are you going to use?

Stefan and Jeremy - this is looking fun!

Jeremy - I was going to try the full boxart camo too. Should be more exciting then the olive drab only. I see you got the barrel too I found I'm missing the 50cal but I think I might have a hauler one somewhere. It looks like a nice build by looking at the perth military modelling review site.

Indeed it is! I've been waiting for an excuse to paint a tiger faced tank of some kind for quite a while

And yes indeed, I couldn't pass that barrel up when I saw it, you'll love the detail in the muzzle brake
And thanks for the link to the PMMS review, I totally forgot about the mantlet and bogie issues. It makes you wish that HobbyBoss would just commit to retooling some of their 1:48 Sherman parts. The kits are otherwise really nice, and with a few corrections would easily be outstanding.

Alright gentlemen! In a few hours it will be 2011 somewhere in the world and a few hours more it will be 2011 everywhere. I would say we're good to go on this campaign! Yeehaa!

Here is the updated Campaign Chart:

________________________________________
And for once on time, January's history installment:

On new years eve 1950 the Chines launched their Third Phase Offensive, also known as the Chinese New Year's Offensive. In nightime attachs UN forces were surrounded and forced to retreat south.

On 4 January 1951 Communist Forces once again captured Seoul.

On 7 January combined Chinese and North Korean forces capture the city of Wonju in the first Battle of Wonju.

The US 23rd Infantry Regiment with attached French battallion is ordered to retake Wonju on January 8th. Though they do not succeed in retaking the city, they take hill 247 about 3 miles south of Wonju by 12 January, thereby placing it in artillery range. In bitter hand to hand combat the American and French units inflict severe losses on the communist forces and force them to retreat, leaving Wonju a no mans land.

The front then stabilised on a line from Suwon to Wonju and Samcheok as the Chinese supply lines were getting too long and the Chinese soldiers were too exhausted after months of continuous fighting.

On January 25 UN forces launched Operation Thunderbolt, a reconnaissance in force to the Han river which showed that the Chinese had mostly abandoned this territory.

So let's finally get started with this campaign! Looking forward to lots of planes, tanks, ships and figures! Hopefully some nice dios too.

Cheers and happy new year!

To start everything off, here is my kit, not the M16 as originally planned, I am building that kit for targets shoot back campaign. Instead, I am building a M39, converting the AFV Club M18 using the Legend conversion kit.

Here are the kits, well, almost, I am going to use fruilmetal tracks, which I am waiting for:

and here are most of the parts that I will be using from the AFV Club kit:

Stefan,

I may yet change my build from an M24 Chaffee to the Academy F-86F-30 Sabre (1/48), these "Wingy Things" have just about got me hooked, and NMF looks awesome in Alcad II !!

Cheers

THIS IS AN EASY KIT!!!!!!!!! here is what was done at around 00:15 this moring.
Tamiya M-41
Tamiya M-41
Tamiya M-41
Tamiya M-41
Tamiya M-41
Tamiya M-41

it seems that something is wrong when you do not spend hours and a lot of cutting, filing, sanding to assemble a kit, but this took only around 45 minutes, with the mojority of the time spent in cutting parts from the trees. Next step is to give it a bath to remove all of the oil I put on the kit from eating cashews.
