That definitely is not a Japanese Type 95 tank in the link. Might be a Type 95 railroad armored carrier (Tank Power #11, page 55).

That's why I'm cautious about the M36 being Korean...

I've always wanted to build a Pershing and this campaign has given me that opportunity. This is what I've gathered to work with:
Tamiya- Kit
Friulmodel- Tracks
RB- 90mm barrel
?- .50 cal barrel
Verlinden- .30 and .50 cal ammo boxes
Archer- Pershing generic markings
Archer- casting symbols
AFV Club- 90mm shells
and finally some assorted stowage from the spares box.
I'd still like to pick up the Tiger Models external telephone and a brass .30 cal. I'm also on the lookout for some figures to use as an early war USMC tank crew.
I'm planning to build it up as an early war USMC Pershing, September 1950. It will be based on a hybrid of these two photos.
inspiration 1
inspiration 2
Since I know very little about the Korean War and even less about the Pershing, I'm going to be relying on you guys for tips and suggestions.
That's about it for now, I'm hoping to get started next weekend.

Bob you sure are in a hurry with your M41, huh? Keep it coming! Looking forward to painting and decalling. Unfortunately the only person with any knowledge of marking of M41s in Korea is Bruce, who is now offline for a while...
Tom, sorry I couldn't help with the M36B2, I have no knowledge on the subject of the M36 in Korea.
sherb that is a nice array of goodies you have there! The references you added look good too. Looking forward to your progress!
Keep the progress coming everyone!
Cheers!

Stefan, I took over for Bruce's Blitz 3 campaign but will relinquish when he starts Blitz 4. I found some color photos of different camos on M4's, M26, and other afv's using a (3) color camo so I will use this on the M41.

Hmmmm.. it would appear that I have been posting progress piccies in the wrong forum.. over on Aeroscale, or am I the only one building a craft that moves through the air with the aid of rotating wings for this campaign?
So here is probably the final progress shot as all this baby needs is decals, a tail rotor and the main rotor blades painted..
Regards
Warren

Warren, nice looking bird. I grew up with a TV program here in the US named "WHIRLLY BIRDS" and for a 6 year old the Bell 47 was wonderful.

"WHIRLLY BIRDS"
Wow, I kinda remember that one too. Don't clearly recall the model 47, but I seem to remember an all white H-21(?) Flying Banana from that show. Got a battery powered one for Christmas one year that might even have had a hoist hung over the cargo door.
Warren, I'm plugging away on an MPC F2H-2p for this one. And I think there are a couple of other "Wing wipers" in here somewhere.

I remember that show well. Years later my PD started the aviation division and low and behold a few Bell 47's arrived. Talking to the crew one day I learned a few facts.
#1 There was NO cabin heater.
#2 In the cold moist midwestern winters, you did not exhale forcefully else the bubble fog up.
#3 It was not uncommon to have the interior of the bubble frost over after #2.
I gained a new found respect and admiration for the pilots and crews.
How would you like to fly this in winter, in Korea?
Brrrrrrrrr.

@ Mark & Wayne: you are showing your age along with me.
@ Mark: I dont remember the H21 but it was a long time ago so the memory is not quite what it was.
@ Wayne: no thanks on the Winter Korean ride, I was stationed in Maine with VP8, we were given these POOPIE SUITS to survive the frigid weather in the Atlantic if we were ever forced to parachute or land at sea. Not my idea of fun, the suit was like trying to put a rubber glove on your body. Then again I was inside an enclosed warm fuselage. I can only imagine the discomfort the pilots endured flying those 47's.

Yea, I'll bet those canvas doors (when they were installed) really kept out the cold blasts.....
I think I took a joy ride in a Model 47 back in '69. Up and around the pattern at an airshow in Oxnard, CA in the spring / summer. Didn't notice the need for cabin heat then...

Being a grunt I never had those experiences. However in it's infinate wisdom the Corps sent us from Egypt to Norway to Panama all in the span of a year. Lovely
Here's where I'm at as of tonight.
These are the headlight storage tubes made from .040 rod with .020 rod inserted as detail.
I took the front fenders off and thinned the remainder to better replicate sheet metal.
I've actually made quite a bit of progress, yet it doesn't look like it.

Actually, the Bell 47s has perspex doors that could be installed, but as another learned person informed us if you even breathed hard toward the bubble it would fog up.. or ice up if you were really unlucky.. Doors off.. where's that ground?

@ Wayne, nice work. I'll be watching your build for those small details that I don't pick up on. Hope you don't mind.
@ Sal, I had originally thought they were the same tank, while the captions say they were taken a day apart, close inspection shows that the damage on the side skirts is different and only one of them is marked with 34 on the turret. Definitely from the same unit given the field modified fender ammo racks.
According to the captions they were taken on September 3 and 4, 1950 in Naktong.
I found this shot of what appears to 34 dated September 20, 1950, about to land at Inchon. From my understanding, the landing took place several days before. Tank 34 at Inchon
Again, according to the caption, this one is dated September 9, 1950 Tank 33
Same unit, 1st Tank Battalion, with those racks.
It has been a nice history lesson getting some of the background.

Sal, don't tell me that color ruined your vision, a dose of black and white makes you appreciate more. If I remember correctly "WHIRLLY BIRDS" was a 30 minute program sponsered by Nabisco from 1955 - 1959 the dates are open to debate, I researched Wikipedia and other sites but came up empty. Mark do you remember any details? Sal this was a great show on saturday morning to whet the appetite of a 6 yrear old with all of the flight scenes.

If you have ever seen it there was a show on here in the 1960's called Skippy The Bush Kangaroo, and at the end of each episode there was vision of a Bell 47 sitting on the helipad outside the ranger station at Waratah National Park. Just sitting there and the rotors lazily spinning. It didn't get much use in the show though I don't think. And then of course there was MASH...

Bob, your memory hasn't gone over the hill yet. Check this out http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050077/ Series was on 57-59. All episodes in B&W. No mention of the hardware they used, so my memory may still have a hole.

@ Mark: thanks for the help, I do not remember the character names that the link states. Oh well can't have everything.
@ Warren: Heard of Skippy The Bush Kangaroo but, I do not think it was ever shown in any area that I was in.

I always wondered why the helicopter was just sitting there with its blades going round and round and round... I was under 10 years old at the time...

Andy,
You have some terrific progress there. Obviously us "Wing-Wipers" have some catching up to do. My F9F is coming along, but not as quick as your build.
Another question for the group, has anyone ever seen a 1/48 scale kit of the H-5 ? I thought one was made quite a while ago by a smaller company ?
Keep up the great work, guys. We'll catch up with you !
Take it easy, Bruce
