They should be stored under the protective plate (part E5) when not used (they are "hinged" on E11). Not sure if it's possible to get the hatches under the plate on the Trumpy kit?

Olivier, going through a few photos show that the hatches seem to be used sometimes when the tank is in a static position. But I also have a photo of one just parked along the road (Russian in Afghanistan). My point is that you can still build a non-wading tank with hatches closed and still be correct (althought perhaps not the most common). Guess it depends on how you want to finish the vehicle.

But here you are some xemplars which are operating with closed hatches
Hera a Russian T-62 M with closed hatches
In my humble opinion depicting the hatches closed are not a mistake
Overheating problems would be possible only after a long run

Thanks for the inputs. So there are many valid options : no covers at all, tilted covers and "unlocked" covers.
In most cases, if not all, the small grill cover next to the fan housing is missing. I guess I can get rid of it.

Thx for posting the parade photo. After re-checking I found it in the folder where it's supposed to be. Somehow I never seem to find the pictures that I'm looking for when I'm go through the 'library'.

The last one of your pictures Mauro is acctually an model 1962. The hatches that can be made out are the usual access hatches present on the 1962 engine deck. A better version of that photo can be found in the Tankograd T-62 book.

To my knowledge T-62M were just modernized or upgraded tanks whatever their original model (62, 67 or 72).
But I may be wrong.

So lets talk barrels: we know by now that the bore of the trumpeter part is too thick. As far as I know there are four (technically three) options out there to replace it:
Modelpoint 3515 115mm 2A20 (U5TS) barrel for T-62 (tamiya)
Modelpoint 3515A 2A20 (U5TS) 115mm barrel conversion for T-62AM (tamiya)
RB model 35B28 115mm L/50 (may be OOP)
Armorscale B35-080 115mm U5 TS
Anyone have thoughts on these and their quality?
Whereas to an englishman the taking of a sledgehammer to crack a nut is a wrong decision and a sign of mental immaturity, to a russian the opposite is the case. In russian eyes the cracking of nuts is clearly what sledgehammers are for.

Anybody tried the Eduard Etch set 35507 set for the Tamiya kit on the Trumpeter T-62, specifically the mod 1972 vers?
The Tamiya kit is not exactly 1/35th, and I wonder how well parts designed for that kit will fit the Trumpeter one.

Hi,
I've a question about the T-62Bdd kit from trumpeter. The kit includes two decal variants. One is obviously an Afghan tank( the camouflaged one). The other seems to be a soviet at least the boxart seems to show an soviet vehicle (the first boxart which was published didn't show any markings on the tank at all). But the large unit ensign on the additinal armor doesn't look like an soviet ensign (like an communist symbol yes; a stylized garland of corn, but i've never saw something like thaht on an soviet tank) and the colored sheet shows also white outlined skirts and fenders like on an vehicle used during a parade. Maybe anyone knows if this vehicle has an example in real life or if this ensign is really an soviet or maybe an afghan one. Thanks.

My guess is that the non-afghan markings are for Russian Ministry of the Interior. Not 100% sure though...

Thanks Jacques for your answer. Now I saw the same Ensign is also on the Afghan tank decal sheet from Bison decals and it is for an northern alliance tank. Some kind of Russian or soviet marking would be much better but thats just my opinion. sure is the Trumpeter Boxart is misleading.

i am currently building the trumpeter t-62 1972 with legend productions t-62m conversion i can not remember looking at the mig kit but the legend kit is quite nice and from appearances will match up good with the bison decals 35100 that i have for it on a side note i bought all this before trumpeter released the t-62m kit
but i think the kit i am building will have a whole lot more detail any questions just shout

Thanks for the follow up. Normally Russian vehicles only carry a tactical number and that is it...no other markings are NORMALLY there...makes them boring, but makes unit ID harder for the enemy...and model builder. It also keeps those Russian tanks kinds boring but oh well...

Can anyone tell me if any of the Syrian Arab Army's T-62s have been fitted with ERA? I really like the look of the tank with ERA but for the sake of accuracy I'll build an earlier variant, if I must. Thanks!

Most likely wire is used. It is also possible, but I do not know if this is what they did, that the tracks are welded to the grab handles.

It doesn't seem that any T-62MV ever saw combat. It was a rare model that was usually assigned to far east units.
