Much as i can see the motivation behind this decision, i do have some mix feelings to limiting it to one campaign per focus area. This does result in either a very broad theme where just about every entry qualifies or that little participation is generated because the chosen theme is not aligned with their interest.
Wouldnt it help if we utilise the same voting feature that Jim.S is using for the magazine subscription poll and open that up to the members of armorama to vote on which submitted proposal qualifies for the campaign? From here we could then pick say 2 - 3 of the best ones? This would at least give us a good indication which campaign would have a high level of participation and at the same time fix the number of campaigns every quarterly or 6 months.
You could almost use the poll as a filtering process where the top 3 are then scrutinised by the review committee thereby reducing the time taken to go through all submissions. You are effectively harnessing an untapped resource for this review process, which are the members themselves.
I do believe the campaigns here do stimulate alot of interest among our members so it would be a shame to see this idea reduced so drastically due to the lack of resources to keep up with the submissions.

I have to admit I do agree with Jim on this one. There are some "weird and wonderful" campaigns running which I personally can't see the point in. My philiosophy modelling wise has always been to attempt to create something that is reasonably historically accurate. Not a rivet counter and never will be as I enjoy the hobby and that's not my style.Whatever floats someones boat. However when I see people posting that they want to model a punk band I do wonder why they are here as that has no relevance to the ethos of the site. The campaigns do need to be vetted. The campaign I set up was to allow modellers who prefer British subjects carte blance to build for the invasion of Normandy from a Commonwealth point of view and fortunately it was approved. Looking at the reaction to that it's obvious that people wanted to do that for whatever reasons. I realise I've only been here for a few months but some of the campaigns have made me cringe. Why didn't I go to Games Workshop and buy stuff to glue to a Sherman? Basically because it would be ridiculous and I wouldn't waste a Sherman! History is history. There are no "what ifs," it is what happened. Simple as that. Campaigns should be relevant either history or current events, not hypothetical situations, not fiction but reality. Nnext thing we'll be seeing Moon Panzers!!! Said my piece. Discuss....

I just started modeling AFV's in August and signed up for 4 campaigns, have one done, one almost done, and the other two should be no problem to finish on time. I may just do a 5th one too(a Humvee is a quick snack build anyway). I also signed up for the first one for next year. So are we saying from now on only one armor campaign for next year? What should we do with the other 50 weeks?
If I start my build for the Achtung Jabo! campagin on Jan 3rd, it will be done before the end of the month.

gentlemen, if i may..
i feel bringing this topic up will do our forum a little good..
i, found myself guilty not posting up on the official folder..
somehow, its kinda messy when u look at the campaign forum now and then..so many sub-folder with the same campaign names or intention..
i was wondering if there is anyway we all could help keep the forum clean? like maybe only do our posting on the 'Official' folders

You do have a point there. If we all posted in the official folders when we had updates, pictures, or to make some good criticism/praise/suggestions on somebody's model, it would keep thing much cleaner than people making their own folder for their own model as does happen fairly often.
I dont think however, campaigns should be limited by type and number. I think if its really busy, then sure, put off a campaign. I say limit within reason of giving time to each section here (figures, armour, whatever), and within reason of what time the staff can give us to update the campaigns pages, sort through proposals, run things and still be able to have their own lives. Im sure we as a community could also be helpful by being a little more orderly and organized (not picking on anyone specific, more everyone as a team, me included - and this isnt to say we are some chaotic mob, people here are organized, but we could probably be a little more so, especially by keeping posts properly located in the campaign section of the forums).
If the interest comes up for a few armour campaigns, if time allows it, then do it. I do agree with the suggestion of voting for the most popular ones, so you can get the most interest. But as pointed out already, if you only get one or two a year, its going to be so broad, in an attempt to include everyone, that almost everything will qualify. Or on the other hand, there may not be enough interest in the single campaign presented, causing those members who thrive on the campaigns to check in once or twice a year, or drop out completely.

As a campaign leader of a really big campaign (MEOW) I can attest to the difficulty of monitoring everything. I have set up an official thread so I can catch everyone's name, but I'm sure I'll miss folks that don't follow the instructions. No matter
I have entered and completed 5 campaigns so far this year. I am also enrolled in a 6th that starts in 2 weeks. Limiting it to only 1, well if that is how it must be, then so be it. (don't build cars, airplanes or figures and my diormas are carefully thought out and trying to do one for a campaign would probably not work for me) My thoughts are, I only sign up for what interests me. Do I think there are far too many. You betcha.
Oh, I forgot, i this taking effect right now? Will presently running campaigns be affected, or will it go into place on January 1 2007 and only affect future campaigns?
