I have to re-do the whole build as I'm not satisfied with the first one. Issues with shape and small disproportions in numbers. I have managed to do another master for casting of this project.

This time everything looks in scale and I'm happy with it. This will be my first version. The back roll cage is just a trial fit. I have to turned the head light manually to re-create this part and one of the difficult things to do. All roll cage is temporarily attached to maximise accuracy before casting it.

This is the final master before casting. Most of the main parts have been done whats left are small details and tiny parts. Stay tune.

Here you can see the old chassis I made.

A full walkaround of the build, 80% complete.

Hi val
I can imagine how it is difficult production process, which requires skill and perseverance. Thanks to share.
I have become your fans.

What exactly about the tires makes them left- and right specific??

Great work!! There is just something about tires... I could model only tires... that and engines... okay I'm off my rocker

They say that the first thing you go blind in is your eyes... never mind answering, I see what is rotation dependent now...

BTW did I say that this is awesome work!!!

Yes its me again!!

On Supacat's homepage it states that the ATMP has 31/15.5 R 16 tires, but most everyplace else shows 31/15.5 R 15??

Have they changed dimensions maybe??

Hello Brian, There are several marks of ATMP. I Think ALVIS produce the mark III which is what I'm doing. Very few info on this and if you look closely rims vary too. I'm doing the 15 inch rims. There are other thread pattern also. If you look closely the sides of the one im doing is a bit thicker and had an opening panels both rear and front in which the signal lights are attached. You can also see a slight difference on the gauge panel. The engine is by VW ADE 1.9 turbocharged diesel. I think the older mark has a different engine but I'm not sure about this.

It looks simply excellent.

Great job!

If you want and don't mind, it would be great if you wrote a tutorial about "how to scratch build wheels". Yours are perfect !

I think lot of us (of course, included me) would like to know how they can manage to do it exactly

Anyway, congrats indeed

Thanks Mauro. I have a few pictures on this but if you take a look at the begining of the thread I have explained how I did the wheels. To recap, this is made from a laminated styrene sheet to appropriate thickness then turned to correct diameter then slowly shaped to exact size. Then sanded smooth after which thread pattern is added individually. Hope that helps.

Yes, it helps, thanks a lot

Only a pair of questions

Did you used a lathe or a drill to shape them?

How did you make the tread? Did you cut every single part of your pattern?

I'm interested in Russian subjects, and wheels usually are quite ugly in the kits of Russian subjects

For exemple I'd like to make the wheels for my trumpeter MAZ 537 or for my EE Gaz-66, but I haven't done it yet

thanks in advance for your replies

I used a variable speed drill and dremel for fine tuning. A lathe would be the best but I have no space in my house even for a small one. Thread pattern is made from evergreen styrene cut to precise lenght and placed individually. This takes a lot of time but if you do it really slow you will end up with a more precise alignment. I think the shape and turning is the easy part, the thread pattern is more challenging. With bigger Soviet tyres I think it would be ok.

Reviving this thread. Its been a long time since I last upated this (busy w/ work & family).

8 months on and still on a slow progress but managed to get most of the small details sorted out.

Here are series of pictures showing the rivets, drive system, exhaust, engine deck, intakes, rear door, rear lights and under chassis detailing.

Still needs the full winch, console, shifter etc....

I have temporarily taken down the roll cage for ease of work. Here you can see the wheels dry fitted and set to the correct distance. The ATMP utilizes a front four steering mehanism and slide skid to turn.

Notice the steering bar and how it should looked (off set).

I still have a long way to go and a lot of details to be added. Once done I could start casting and make several versions.
